Position Summary
BC Steel Buildings is seeking motivated and safety-focused General Laborers to join our manufacturing team. This role is essential to daily operations and supports multiple departments including fabrication, welding, material handling, and shop maintenance.
This is a hands-on position ideal for individuals who enjoy physical work, learning new skills, and contributing to a team-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Follow all company safety policies and standard operating procedures
- Assist with fabrication, welding support, and basic machine operation
- Load, unload, and move materials throughout the facility
- Operate hand tools and equipment such as grinders and other shop tools
- Support deliveries and material staging as needed
- Meet production and quality expectations
- Perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, climbing, and standing for extended periods
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors
- Perform additional duties or special projects as assigned
Qualifications
- Ability to safely operate a forklift while transporting long, heavy, or oversized materials, including steel beams, through confined production areas and around building columns, equipment, and personnel without shifting or losing the load.
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Previous experience in manufacturing, construction, warehousing, material handling, or a similar environment preferred, but not required
- Ability to operate desktop computers, tablets, handheld scanners, and other electronic tracking devices used for job and load completion.
- Ability to troubleshoot basic computer or handheld-device errors
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, nail guns, miter saws and other shop equipment after receiving training
- Ability to read and follow work instructions, safety procedures, and production documentation
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, and willingness to learn
- Ability to communicate effectively and work well in a team-oriented environment
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing production priorities
- Willingness to work in different departments and perform various duties as production needs change
- Forklift or material-handling experience is preferred but not required
- Must be able to maintain regular and dependable attendance
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to frequently bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, climb, and perform repetitive movements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently and heavier materials with assistance or approved lifting equipment
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that may include noise, dust, temperature changes, and moving equipment
- Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toe footwear
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
