Summary of Responsibilities:
In this role, the Director will focus on covering global and regional American banks, as well as US branches and subsidiaries of international banks (as part of the Global Banks Sales team). The Director, Global Banks Sales (GBS), will be part of GTB Institutional Sales (GTBIS), which sits within Global Transaction Banking (GTB USA) under BBVA’s Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) platform in the United States.
The Director will lead and coordinate transactional banking relationships with these institutions globally across BBVA’s footprint, acting as the primary commercial point of contact for Cash Management, Liquidity Management, Working Capital, Trade Finance, Structured Trade Finance, and Correspondent Banking solutions.
This role combines global relationship ownership with product orchestration responsibilities, requiring the ability to align multiple stakeholders across BBVA’s international network.
As a senior member of the GTB Institutional Sales team, this individual will contribute to the continued development of the Global Banks Sales franchise, support complex cross-border mandates, and help strengthen BBVA’s positioning as a core transactional banking partner for global and regional banks.
List Major/Essential Job Duties:
- Develop and manage senior-level relationships with Global and Regional American Banks and US branches of international banks.
- Act as the global coordinator of the transactional banking relationship across BBVA’s footprint, ensuring strategic alignment, pricing consistency, and coordinated client coverage.
- Originate, structure and execute multi-product transactional mandates across Cash Management, Liquidity Management, Working Capital, Trade Finance, Structured Trade Finance and Correspondent Banking solutions.
- Own the global client strategy and revenue plan for the assigned banking portfolio, driving wallet share expansion and sustainable revenue growth.
- Identify cross-border liquidity, clearing and trade opportunities leveraging BBVA’s international network and product capabilities.
- Maintain full commercial accountability for revenues, profitability metrics and return hurdles associated with the assigned portfolio.
- Partner with Risk and Compliance to ensure correspondent banking and institutional activities remain aligned with regulatory requirements and internal risk appetite.
- Maintain disciplined pipeline management, forecasting accuracy and structured client planning processes.
- Coordinate with Legal, Operations and onboarding teams to ensure efficient implementation of complex multi-entity banking structures.
- Lead preparation of client pitches, indicative proposals, RFP responses, and internal deal memoranda; conduct transaction-level profitability analysis.
- Contribute to strategic planning initiatives for the Financial Institutions segment within GTB USA.
Level of Complexity and Risk Involved:
- The role involves significant complexity due to the cross-border and multi-jurisdictional nature of global and regional banking institutions. The GBS Director must understand balance sheet management, liquidity regulations, capital constraints, correspondent banking risk frameworks and interbank funding models across different regulatory environment.
- The position operates within a highly regulated environment and requires strong awareness of BSA/AML, KYC and correspondent banking due diligence standards. The individual acts as part of the first line of defense, balancing commercial objectives with operational, regulatory and reputational risk considerations.
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities/Competencies:
- Minimum 7 years’ experience within Corporate & Investment Banking, with substantial exposure to Banks coverage.
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- Fluency in English required; Spanish preferred.
- Proven ability to engage senior stakeholders and drive outcomes in complex client environments.
- Strong expertise in Cash Management, Liquidity Management, Working Capital, Trade Finance, Structured Trade Finance and Correspondent Banking.
- Proven ability to coordinate global client coverage across multiple jurisdictions in a matrix organization.
- Demonstrated track record of originating and executing multi-product transactional mandates.
- Proven ability to build credibility and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders.
- Ability to structure complex cross-border trade, liquidity and clearing solutions.
- Strong analytical skills with proven ability to deliver complex solutions to clients.

With respect to this position in our New York Office, the expected base salary ranges from $180,000 to $220,000. It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
