Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Real Estate Development Manager to lead complex development projects from acquisition through disposition. This individual will oversee all phases of the development process, partnering with internal teams, consultants, municipalities, lenders, contractors, and investors to successfully deliver commercial, mixed-use, multifamily, and industrial projects throughout Northern California.
The ideal candidate is an entrepreneurial real estate professional with strong financial, entitlement, and project leadership experience who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously.
This role is full-time and in-office in San Jose due to the collaborative nature of our development and leadership teams.
Key Responsibilities
Development & Project Leadership
- Lead projects through the full development lifecycle, from acquisition and due diligence through entitlements, construction, stabilization, and disposition
- Evaluate development opportunities through financial analysis, market research, and feasibility studies
- Develop project budgets, schedules, business plans, and development strategies
- Manage project risks, budgets, timelines, and overall execution to achieve investment objectives
Entitlements & Stakeholder Management
- Lead entitlement efforts and represent projects with municipalities, public agencies, utility providers, and community stakeholders
- Direct and coordinate architects, engineers, planners, consultants, and legal counsel throughout the development process
- Negotiate development-related agreements, consultant contracts, and purchase transactions
Financial & Investment Management
- Prepare and maintain development pro formas, project budgets, and financial analyses
- Support debt and equity financing activities, investor presentations, and lender relationships
- Monitor project performance, cash flow, and financial results throughout the development lifecycle
Construction & Cross-Functional Leadership
- Partner closely with construction teams to monitor schedule, budget, quality, and project execution
- Coordinate across development, construction, finance, and property management teams to keep projects moving forward
- Provide regular project updates and recommendations to executive leadership
- Mentor Development Managers, Associate Development Managers, and Analysts
- Contribute to departmental best practices, strategic planning, and continuous process improvement
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Real Estate, Finance, Business, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Urban Planning, Architecture, or a related field
- 10 years of progressively responsible real estate development experience
- Proven experience managing projects from acquisition through disposition
- Strong financial modeling, underwriting, and project management skills
- Deep understanding of California entitlement and permitting processes
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
Preferred
- Master's degree in Real Estate Development, Business Administration, Urban Planning, or a related discipline
- Experience delivering commercial, mixed-use, multifamily, or industrial developments
- Established relationships with Bay Area municipalities, consultants, brokers, lenders, and contractors
- Experience working with institutional capital, joint ventures, or private equity partners
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive compensation package including base salary, performance bonus, comprehensive health benefits, 401(k), paid time off, and professional development opportunities.
Base salary range: $150,000–$200,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
Salary : $150,000 - $200,000
