Job Summary
We are looking for a skilled Electrical Estimator with strong field and construction experience to support commercial and industrial electrical projects. This role is responsible for producing accurate, detailed, and competitive estimates based on drawings, specifications, site conditions, and real-world installation methods. The ideal candidate understands how electrical work is actually built in the field and can translate that into reliable, executable bids.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Review and analyze construction drawings, specifications, addenda, and contract documents to develop complete electrical takeoffs and cost estimates
- Build detailed, scope-specific estimates for commercial and industrial electrical systems
- Identify constructability issues, scope gaps, and project risks during bid development
- Prepare accurate labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor cost breakdowns
- Solicit, obtain, and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing for completeness, scope coverage, and competitiveness
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site walks, and jobsite assessments to evaluate field conditions and constraints
- Apply real-world installation means and methods to ensure estimates reflect actual field execution
- Adjust estimates as design documents, scope, or pricing evolves during bidding and negotiation
- Develop GMP proposals, design-build budgets, and conceptual estimates from schematic and partial design documents
- Coordinate with project management and operations during handoff to ensure full understanding of scope, assumptions, and pricing structure
- Assist in developing cost codes aligned with project scope for job setup and tracking
- Prepare proposal letters, bid forms, and supporting documentation in compliance with bid requirements
- Compile and distribute qualification packages (MBE/WBE documentation, experience lists, key personnel, etc.)
- Participate in internal estimate review and bid strategy meetings
- Review all contract documents for scope completeness, schedule requirements, safety standards, and technical obligations
Requirements & Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in the electrical construction industry (commercial/industrial strongly preferred)
- Solid field knowledge of electrical systems, installation practices, and construction sequencing
- Strong understanding of NEC, NFPA 70E, and applicable electrical codes and standards
- Prior hands-on estimating experience in commercial and industrial electrical projects required
- Design-build and conceptual estimating experience strongly preferred
- Proficiency with Accubid Anywhere (or similar estimating software) and MS Office (Excel, Word)
- Strong ability to read and interpret drawings, specs, and construction documents
- Practical understanding of field labor productivity, material handling, and installation conditions
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple active bids under tight deadlines
- Clear communication skills for working with vendors, subcontractors, project managers, and field teams
