The BBC is expanding our coverage of power and politics in Washington, at a hugely consequential moment for America’s relationship with the world. We are looking for an experienced and well-connected journalist who can cultivate sources across the capital, break news and provide impartial and insightful analysis on the biggest stories. You will primarily write for the BBC News website and app, while also contributing across social media, broadcast and podcasts.

- Break news out of Washington - deliver original reporting and exclusives around the most consequential domestic and foreign policy decisions
- Provide insider perspective - mine a deep contact book to take audiences behind the scenes of the big decisions
- Offer sharp insight and impartial analysis - tell our audience what matters through quick-turn analysis, video explainers and live blog posts
- Write with authority and flair - deliver clear and accurate copy in a range of lengths and formats, from daily news stories to weekend deep-dives
- Appear across BBC output - report and analyse on TV, radio, social channels and podcasts
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Proven expertise in US political reporting and a track record of delivering eye-catching scoops
- In-depth knowledge and sourcing, with clear experience of navigating Washington’s political and diplomatic circles
- Ability to write with speed, and deliver compelling and well-written deadline analysis
- Creative and idea-driven, consistently generating unique story angles and coverage ideas that work for US and global audiences
- A commitment to the BBC’s editorial values, including impartiality, and enthusiasm for strengthening our trusted position in the US market
