HVAC Technician – Smart Thermostat, Boiler Decommissioning & Residential Specialist

Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled, reliable, and tech‑savvy HVAC Technician with experience in smart thermostat installation, basic HVAC installs, plumbing, and boiler decommissioning. Our work is primarily residential across Nassau County, Suffolk County, Queens, the five boroughs of NYC, and parts of New Jersey, so dependable transportation and punctuality are essential.
This role requires someone who can follow detailed instructions, work independently, communicate professionally with customers, and handle both HVAC and light plumbing tasks. The position also includes optional sales opportunities — if you identify equipment needs and the customer moves forward, you earn additional commission on top of your base pay.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot Nest thermostats and other smart HVAC controls
- Install smart thermostats for customers with existing oil or gas boilers under PSEG programs
- Perform boiler decommissioning according to Con Edison rebate requirements, including proper shutdown, plumbing disconnection, and documentation
- Handle basic HVAC installations (mini‑splits, heat pumps, air handlers, condensers)
- Perform light plumbing work related to HVAC systems, including piping, drains, and boiler components
- Follow manufacturer instructions, wiring diagrams, and Con Edison/PSEG guidelines accurately
- Drive to customer homes across Nassau, Suffolk, Queens, NYC boroughs, and parts of NJ
- Maintain strict punctuality and keep an organized daily schedule
- Communicate clearly with customers and provide excellent service
- Use mobile apps, digital tools, and CRM systems to document work and update job status
- Identify potential equipment upgrades or replacements and communicate them to the sales team
- Earn additional commission when your recommendations lead to equipment sales
Qualifications
- Experience installing Nest thermostats or similar smart home HVAC controls
- Experience with plumbing, especially related to boilers, drains, and HVAC piping
- Ability to decommission gas or oil boilers following Con Edison rebate guidelines
- Basic HVAC installation knowledge (heat pumps, mini‑splits, air handlers, condensers, etc.)
- Ability to read instructions, wiring diagrams, and follow detailed procedures
- Light electrical experience (low‑voltage wiring, thermostat circuits, control boards)
- Must be independent, reliable, and able to manage your own workflow
- Must have reliable transportation for daily travel to customer homes
- Strong technology skills — comfortable with apps, digital forms, and smart devices
- Excellent communication and people skills
- Professional appearance and customer‑focused attitude
- EPA certification is a plus but not required
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
