Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Support the Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan (INRMP) to develop and provide oversight. Examples of components of the plan include Endangered Species Act (ESA) Section 7, Migratory Bird Act, wildlife management, flaura/fauna, etc. This includes reporting related to biological opinions and consultations and conducting studies to gather information and data to support consolation(s)
- Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures
- Support the NEPA team with CRM elements for CATEX, EAs, or EISs on projects and programs
- Conduct biological assessments, essential habitat reports, environmental resource permitting documentation
- Conduct survey(s) and provide support for threatened and endangered species that may need support for various projects or proposed actions to fulfil review requirements for biological resources under the ESA.
- Conduct periodic habitat modeling, population surveys, and species recovery support
- Conduct and participate in regional wildlife or habitat conservation workshops
- Provide support to ensure compliance with wildlife and plant conservation laws, regulations, Executive Orders, and NASA policies - communicate natural resource requirements to organizations
- Support review of summary of effects of proposed new Federal, State, and local law, regulations and requirements associated with wildlife and plant conservation at NASA
- Support planning for and reviewing of natural resources related plans and permits including Bird/Wildlife Aircraft Strike Hazard Plan (BASH), banding and/or depredation permits
- Support meetings and events including Bird Airstrike Hazard (BASH), Wildlife Hazardous Management, Wildlife Services Officer Meetings, Earth Day, Wildlife Week, etc
- Provide technical analysis and advice to proponents and external applications as coordinated with the government
Key Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship is required and the ability to obtain/maintain a NACI
- Ability to successfully pass a federal agency background check is required
- Experience providing comprehensive support for Natural Resources to ensure compliance with federal, state, and/or local laws and regulations, NASA Policy Directives (NPDs), NASA Policy Requirements (NPRs), as well as Center level requirements and/or related agreements
- Problem-solving skills to identify and address any issues that may arise during the waste management process, minimizing risks and preventing accidents
Software: Proficiency using MS Office software including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is required.

Experience & Education
- Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of Environmental Planning, NEPA or related experience is required.
- Education: A Bachelor of Science (BS) degree or higher in environmental science, engineering, or in a related field is required
- Must be able to walk, sit, and/or stand for extended periods for multiple days/weeks
- Able to operate office equipment, including computers, copy machine, phone, etc
- Capable of light lifting, up to 50 lbs
- Working conditions:
- Able to work both indoors/outdoor (with exposure to the elements)
- Able to walk/climb/knee/crouch and reach
- Able to work on rough terrain when necessary
- Able to work in confined spaces and/or heights
- Able to wear the required PPE, minimally wear gloves, a hard hat, a respirator, and steel-toe boots that may be in combination with protective clothing/suits, a respirator, and/or a fall restraint/recovery harness
- Exposure to hazards/contaminants at times
