Position Summary
The Environmental Health & Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting and administering workplace health and safety programs within a food manufacturing environment. This role focuses on OSHA compliance, employee safety training, incident reporting, and audit readiness while working closely with Human Resources, Operations, Maintenance, and Quality teams. The ideal candidate will have 2–4 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting and a working knowledge of safety regulations applicable to food production facilities.
Key ResponsibilitiesSafety & Compliance
- Assist in the implementation and administration of OSHA-compliant safety programs (HazCom, LOTO, PPE, machine guarding, emergency action plans)
- Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, and job safety analyses (JSAs)
- Track and support corrective actions from internal, regulatory, and customer audits (e.g., SMETA)
- Maintain OSHA 300, 300A, and 301 logs and support regulatory reporting
Incident Management
- Assist with workplace incident, injury, and near-miss investigations
- Coordinate workers’ compensation claims with HR and insurance carriers
- Track incident trends and recommend corrective and preventive actions
- Support return-to-work and light-duty programs
Training & Employee Engagement
- Coordinate and deliver safety training for new hires and existing employees
- Maintain training records and ensure audit compliance
- Promote a proactive safety culture through engagement initiatives
- Documentation & Recordkeeping
- Maintain safety policies, procedures, permits, and logs
- Support development and updates of written safety programs and SOPs
- Ensure documentation is audit-ready
QualificationsRequired
- 2–4 years of experience in health and safety within manufacturing or industrial environments
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations
- Experience with incident investigations and safety training
- Strong organizational and communication skills
Preferred
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Safety, or a related field preferred·
- Experience in food or FDA-regulated manufacturing
- ·Familiarity with social compliance audits (SMETA)
- OSHA 30-Hour Certification or willingness to obtain
- First Aid/CPR certification
- Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to walk production floors for extended periods, climb stairs, observe operations, and work in a manufacturing environment with noise, moving equipment, and food production activities.
