JOB TITLE: Laundry Aide

DEPARTMENT: Laundry

REPORTS TO: Environmental Services Manager

STATUS: Full-Time

SCHEDULE: 7:00 am - 3:30pm - Monday - Fridays

SALARY: $22.00 DOE. Non-Exempt/Hourly

The Laundry Aide is responsible for sorting, washing, drying, and folding a wide variety and large volume of cloth products used at Bayview. They perform these duties in a timely, efficient, and safe manner being careful to minimize the risk of infections being transmitted through any aspect of the laundry process.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge and Skill

• Working knowledge of modes of transmission of infectious diseases, including blood-borne pathogens, and the practice of universal precautions.
• Ability to communicate in English relating to laundry issues - e.g., able to read English instructions for operating washers and dryers and precautions associated with solutions used in the laundry.
• Demonstrated skill and experience in all of the categories mentioned as Specific Duties and Responsibilities.
  
  
  

Judgment and Mental Demands

• Required to prioritize laundry duties based on most urgent needs of Bayview residents and staff.
• Expected to determine efficient ways to use time, equipment, and storage space.
• Expected to assess the quality of fabrics and the washing, drying, and folding of items in order to determine items that need to be replaced and laundering processes that need to be repeated or improved.
  
  
  

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Works on feet continuously.
• Bends, stoops, squats, twists, stands, walks, pushes, pulls, reaches over the head, and uses hands and arms extensively in many positions while performing the “Specific Duties and Responsibilities.”
• Frequently lifts and carries bunches of cloth items weighing up to 25 pounds and is encouraged to limit the number of items lifted at any one time so as not to exceed the 25-pound expectation. Carts are available for transporting cloth items.
• Is exposed to the noise, heat and humidity produced by the washers and dryers.
• Expected to use washing machines and dryers safely in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and BCR policies and procedures.
• Exposed to cleaning and sanitizing chemicals as well as bacteria and viruses. Protective coverings, masks and goggles are available for worker protection.
