Role Description
The Business Advisory & Tax Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Port Washington, NY.
This position will lead tax and business advisory relationships for our small business and individual clients. The role goes beyond tax preparation and compliance and focuses on helping clients understand their financial information, identify planning opportunities, and make better business decisions.
The ideal candidate enjoys working directly with clients, reviewing accounting and bookkeeping work, mentoring staff, and providing proactive guidance throughout the year.
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
• Leading tax planning, preparation, and review for individuals and businesses
• Reviewing bookkeeping and accounting work to ensure accuracy and support tax strategy
• Helping business owners understand financial performance, cash flow, and tax implications
• Identifying proactive planning opportunities including entity structure, compensation, retirement plans, and estimated taxes
• Managing client relationships and serving as a trusted advisor
• Supervising and mentoring team members while maintaining quality standards
• Monitoring deadlines and ensuring timely delivery of client work
• Researching tax matters and staying current with changes in tax law
• Improving internal processes and helping scale the advisory side of the practice
• Collaborating with financial planning professionals when appropriate to deliver integrated advice
Qualifications
• 5 years of progressive experience in public accounting, tax advisory, or client accounting services
• Strong tax expertise including tax planning, tax compliance, and tax preparation
• Experience reviewing bookkeeping or accounting work and translating financial information into planning recommendations
• Strong understanding of business taxation and practical application across various entity structures
• CPA or EA designation preferred; bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
• Experience with QuickBooks Online and tax preparation software preferred (Drake experience a plus)
• Strong Excel, technology, and process improvement skills
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex tax and business concepts clearly
