Overview
The Activity Coordinator is responsible for organizing, planning, facilitating and directing the overall operations of the Activities Department in accordance with current standards, guidelines and regulations, company policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the Executive Director to assure that an on-going program of activities is designed to meet, in accordance with the assessment, the interests and the physical, mental, and psychological well-being of each resident. The Activity Coordinator is also responsible for developing wellness programs for families to meet their identified needs and conducting staff in-services. Hire, evaluate, coordinate, monitor performance, and supervise department staff in accordance with company policy. Make recommendations to the Executive Director with respect to staff evaluations, merit pay increases, disciplinary actions and terminations. Reports to: Activities Director.
Responsibilities
- Primary responsibility is to provide a creative social atmosphere throughout the property and promote resident and family participation through regularly scheduled events, activities, special programs and guest speakers, movie showings, exercise sessions.
- Coordinate and attend all special functions and activity programs for major Holidays.
- Ensure activities and events acknowledge and meet the cultural, religious and ethnic diversity and interests of the residents and their families.
- Personally meet with each new resident within seven (7) days of move-in to ensure proper assessment is completed to enrich the resident through the activities program.
- Actively encourage resident participation in all activities.
- Actively engage in residents’ activities through personally leading activities no less than twelve (12) hours per week.
- Hire, evaluate, coordinate, motivate, monitor performance and supervise department staff in accordance with company policy and department budget. Make recommendations to the Executive Director with respect to staff evaluations, merit pay increases, disciplinary actions and terminations.
- Monitor compliance with Department’s budget through the effective and timely completion of Monthly Spend Downs.
- Ensure compliance with all of company’s policy and procedures for proper use of
- Petty Cash in conjunction with performance of job duties.
- Ensure all necessary vendor/entertainer check requests are completed accurately and timely and in accordance with all company policies and procedures. This includes the timely and accurate completion of W-9 submissions from the vendor/entertainer.
- As directed, plan, schedule, prepare and conduct staff in-services.
- Coordinate transportation needs of the residents and maintain transportation schedule for all events, activities and appointments.
- Possess the ability, licensure and willingness to drive community vehicles.
- Ensure knowledge remains current regarding senior activities through completion of continuing education courses and networking opportunities with other community professionals.
- Support the Executive Director in referral source development efforts, work cooperatively with Community Marketing Directors and assist with marketing events held at the community to build the census of the property.
- Develop, implement and manage a birthday program for the residents at the community.
- Develop, recruit, manage and schedule Community Volunteers. Complete and maintain all required logs and paperwork associated with the Community’s Volunteer Program.
- Ensure that a Resident Council Meeting is held each month.
- Accurately and timely Performance of all clerical work connected with the position (e.g., Monthly Activity Calendar, Community Newsletter).
- Assist with set-up of special events.
- Cooperate with other mangers to ensure activity requirements of individual residents are met or exceeded.
- Assure confidentiality in all matters, including but not limited to employee and resident information.
- Participate in daily management meetings to communicate key issues within the community.
- Maintain compliance with all Federal (Title 22) and state regulations and company policies and procedures applicable to job duties.
- Assist sales and marketing by providing community tours, promoting programs and activities, participation in marketing events.
- Assist with coverage of job duties within the department to ensure completion of essential duties during employee absences.
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for all staff, residents and guests, following established safety standards.
- Encourage teamwork among all departments and assist with conflict resolution.
- Per State of California regulations, as a “mandated reporter” you must report all known or suspected incidents of resident abuse of dependent adults or elders.
- Create a professional and exemplary activities culture with in the community and your team through your words, actions, dress, demeanor and presence.
- Performs other duties as assigned and consistent with the success of the position.
Requirements
Minimum Age Requirement: Must be at least 25 years of age due to driving requirement and carrier’s restrictions.
Education: Must have GED or higher education level.
Experience: Must have one (1) year of experience in conducting group activities and be knowledgeable in evaluating residents’ needs, supervising other employees and in training volunteers.
Professionalism/Personal Ethics: Has respect and compassion towards older adults. Demonstrates concern for the physical and emotional needs of residents and their families. Upholds values of company and shows personal integrity.
Mathematical/Reasoning
Skills: Able to perform simple math calculations. Able to respond to resident needs with patience, compassion, and respect.
Communication Skills Clearly able to speak, read, and understand English. Can follow oral and written instructions.
Working Conditions:
Well-lighted and with appropriate ventilation and temperature levels.
Computer Skills: Proficient in operating office equipment and computers including email, word processing, excel, and other applications.
Other Requirement:
Employee must pass a criminal record clearance, health screening and drug testing prior to beginning work in the community.
Physical Demands: Must be able to regularly listen and speak to individuals, stand for long periods, move about the community, bend, reach, and grasp, lift up to 20 lbs., and assist with walking residents. Good vision is required
Pay: $19.00 - $25.00 per hour
