The Director of Surgical Services directs and supervises functions and activities in the Surgery Department; implements and interprets policies, procedures, standards, and regulations for personnel, patients, medical staff and the public; ensures compliance with Joint Commission standards. Performs duties in any nursing capacity as needed.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:
- The Director of Surgical Services reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).
- The Director of Surgical Services works closely with the other Nursing Managers and members of the Administrative Team.
- Direct reports are clinical staff in the Surgical Services Departments.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Oversee development of Surgery Department goals and objectives.
- In collaboration with the CNO, oversees the department’s budgets and ensures that the departments operate within that budget.
- Prepares periodic reports for the CNO relating to departmental objectives and performances.
- Develops policies and procedures designed to ensure appropriate and cooperative functioning within the nursing department.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested
JOB SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education/experience.
- At least two (2) years of clinical experience in area of specialty with proven managerial skills.
- Valid Registered Nurse license in the state of Louisiana.
- Current BLS Certification upon hire.
- ACLS and PALS Certification within 9 months of hire.
- MOAB certification preferred.
