Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Counselor role based in Lewiston, ME. The Counselor will provide individual and group counseling to patients with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders, using established therapeutic approaches and treatment plans. Day-to-day tasks include conducting intake assessments, developing and updating treatment plans, maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation, and coordinating care with medical and behavioral health team members. The role also involves patient education on recovery strategies, crisis intervention as needed, and participation in case conferences and staff meetings. The Counselor will support a respectful, trauma-informed environment, encourage patient engagement in treatment, and adhere to all regulatory and ethical standards.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated counseling and behavioral health skills, including assessment, treatment planning, individual and group therapy, and crisis intervention.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to build therapeutic rapport, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and interact professionally with patients and families.
- Organizational and documentation skills to manage caseloads, maintain accurate records, and follow clinical, regulatory, and confidentiality requirements.
- Knowledge of substance use disorders, MAT, recovery principles, and trauma-informed, culturally sensitive practices.
- Relevant licensure or certification (e.g., LCSW, LCPC, LMSW, CADC, or equivalent) as required by Maine regulations, or eligibility to obtain such credentials.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field, depending on role level and state requirements.
- Ability to work on-site in Lewiston, ME, including flexibility to support patient needs and program schedules.
- Prior experience in addiction treatment, mental health counseling, or community health settings is preferred.
