- Assist registered technologists with imaging procedures, ensuring adherence to departmental protocols, safety practices, and imaging standards.
- May position patients for specified X-Ray examinations under direct supervision.
- Transport patients to and from the department as needed, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
- Support Radiologists and technologists to maintain seamless department operations.
- Prepare necessary documentation in the EMR/PACS systems to accurately capture patient history, presenting condition, and procedure details.
- Ensure the cleanliness, orderliness, and readiness of imaging rooms, equipment, and work areas.
- Check availability of supplies, accessories, and materials required for imaging procedures; notify staff when restocking is needed.
- Assist with equipment function checks and report any concerns to supervising staff promptly.
- Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and the ability to perform effectively in fast-paced and high-stress situations.
- Maintain compliance with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, quality assurance standards, safety protocols, and infection control guidelines.
- Perform other related duties consistent with the extern’s competencies and assigned by supervising technologists or Radiology Leadership.
Under the direct supervision of a registered Imaging Technologist, the Radiology Student Extern performs a variety of patient care and imaging-related tasks in alignment with classroom instruction and competencies demonstrated during clinical rotations at a Tenet facility. The Student Extern supports imaging procedures, patient transport, documentation, equipment preparation, and workflow efficiency within the Radiology department.
The role requires strong communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to work collaboratively with technologists, radiologists, and interdisciplinary staff to ensure high-quality imaging services and an excellent patient experience.
Education:
Required: Full-time student in good standing in an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
Experience:
Preferred: Computer skills since part of the job is working on the PACS (digital imaging) computer.
