Population: Children and Adult

Schedule: Full Time – Evenings: This will be 6p-6a (does not exclude weekends), with the max call requirement of 36hrs of call every 6 weeks

Forensic Medicine teams across Texas

The Forensic Medicine department at Baylor Scott & White Health includes the Sexual Assault and Violence Response Team and the Child Protection Team. Together, they provide compassionate, sensitive, timely care for victims of violent crimes, child abuse and neglect.

Unique to Central Texas, Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Temple and Baylor Scott & White McLane Children’s Medical Center – Temple staff serve individuals in an eight-county area, including Bell, McLennan, Falls, Milam, Coryell, Lampasas, Burnet and Williamson.

Our forensic medicine teams are available at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Temple and Baylor Scott & White McLane Children's 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Forensic nurse

The forensic nurse is available 24 hours a day for consultation. The nurse works closely with:

  • Emergency department staff
  • Law enforcement agencies
  • Department of Family and Protective Services (CPS/APS)
  • Local advocacy agencies
  • Pediatrician with experience in the evaluation of child physical abuse and neglect
  • Pediatric and adolescent gynecologist with experience in the evaluation of sexual abuse
  • Adult and pediatric radiology staff
  • Pediatric surgeons
  • Trauma specialists
  • Orthopedics
  • Ophthalmologist
  • Social work team
  • Child life specialists
  • Psychiatry department
  • Criminal justice system

Both teams work together with advocates, law enforcement, legal professionals and the district attorney’s office to aid the investigation.

Our team works closely to coordinate trauma & violence-centered care while providing follow up through our social workers and medical directors. When consulted, you are treated as a subject matter expert and your knowledge & experience is a vital part of ensuring the health and safety of this vulnerable population. The forensic nurse gets to be an active part of making the community a safer place.”

Requirements of the Ideal Candidate

  • Graduate of RN School of Nursing
  • ADN required
  • CA-CP SANE certification preferred
  • Active RN License
  • 2 years of bedside experience within the last 5 years
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Required.

QUALIFICATIONS

- EDUCATION - Grad of an Accredited Program

- MAJOR - Nursing

- EXPERIENCE - 2 Years of Experience

- CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION -
Registered Nurse (RN)

Basic Life Support (BLS): BLS or BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
