General Summary:
Under the supervision of the Coding Compliance Manager, the Coding Specialist is responsible for reviewing all aspects of the clinical documentation of services provided for the patient, including procedures, supply utilization, medications and infusions administered while in the Emergency Department to generate appropriate charge capture.

General Summary:
Under the supervision of the Coding Compliance Manager, the Coding Specialist is responsible for reviewing all aspects of the clinical documentation of services provided for the patient, including procedures, supply utilization, medications and infusions administered while in the Emergency Department to generate appropriate charge capture.
Responsibilities:
- Abstracts the clinical record including: electronic and paper documentation to identify all potential tasks, procedures, medications and infusions administered to the patient during their course of treatment within the Emergency Department. Inputs all items into Horizon Intelligent Coding software (HIC).
- Assign 15 E/M facility level codes per hour 95% of the time using the HIC software
- Identifies and reports any record with procedure not found within HIC software to assure accurate charge capture.
- Demonstrates competency with HIC software including all updates and changes distributed with 97% accuracy rate 95% of the time. Complies with all corporate compliance standards for using the HIC software.
- Accounts for all patient records on a daily basis from the HIC active patient list. Reports any charts unaccounted for within the unit. Assures records are reviewed in a timely manner per departmental standards.
- Participates in identifying opportunities to enhance clinician’s documentation and reports them to appropriate level of management.
- On as needed basis, complete concurrent Rehab coding.
