OVERVIEW 

 

Bayfield High School is seeking a dynamic and student-centered educator to serve in a combined role as a .5 Agriculture Education Teacher and .5 Work Based Learning Coordinator. This position supports both the Agriculture Education program and the district\'s work-based learning initiatives by providing students with engaging classroom instruction, leadership development opportunities, and meaningful career exploration experiences connected to postsecondary readiness.

The Agriculture Education component includes classroom instruction, Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) programs, and FFA leadership development. The Work Based Learning component focuses on coordinating internships, apprenticeships, job shadows, volunteer experiences, concurrent enrollment pathways, and other career-connected learning opportunities for students.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with students, families, staff, community organizations, and local employers to create intentional learning experiences that prepare students for success in college, careers, and life.

Bayfield School District is located in the mountains of Southwest Colorado and is a short drive to Purgatory Resort, Wolf Creek Ski Area, and historic Durango.  La Plata County is a world-class environment for outdoor enthusiasts with miles of trails for hiking and biking, wild rivers for rafting, breathtaking lakes for fishing and boating, and winter ski opportunities to complete 12-months of recreation. QUALIFICATION

  • Currently hold a Colorado teaching license with Agricultural Science and/or CTE endorsements (or CDE licensure application in process).
  • CTE endorsement preferred.
  • Maintain a valid Colorado driver\'s license.
  • Submit fingerprints for a criminal background check.
  • Completed and submitted BSD online application.

Agriculture Education Responsibilities

  • Deliver an instructional agriculture education program aligned with Board of Education requirements and state program approval standards.
  • Utilize effective instructional strategies and materials to engage students in agricultural education.
  • Develop students\' agricultural knowledge and technical skills through classroom, laboratory, and shop experiences.
  • Ensure FFA is an integral part of the instructional program and serve as advisor for the local FFA chapter.
  • Plan and support student participation in district, regional, state, and national FFA activities and competitions.
  • Assist students in developing and maintaining Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) programs aligned with their interests and career goals.
  • Conduct supervisory visits during the school year and summer months to monitor student progress in SAE and work-based learning experiences.
  • Maintain accurate records related to agriculture instruction, SAE participation, FFA activities, inventories, and program requirements.
  • Coordinate the maintenance, organization, and safety of classroom, laboratory, shop, and agricultural facilities.
  • Teach and enforce appropriate lab and shop safety procedures.
  • Supervise students during off-campus activities, contests, conventions, field trips, and leadership events.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Agricultural Advisory Committee, district administration, and community stakeholders.

Work Based Learning Coordinator Responsibilities

  • Develop and coordinate work-based learning opportunities including internships, apprenticeships, job shadows, volunteer experiences, capstones, and paid work experiences.
  • Build relationships with local and regional employers to establish high-quality work-based learning sites for students.
  • Assist students in identifying career interests, career pathways, and postsecondary goals through individualized support and career exploration opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Career & Technical Education staff and core content teachers to connect classroom learning with career readiness skills and workforce opportunities.
  • Develop procedures for student enrollment and participation in Work Based Learning programs.
  • Monitor and supervise students participating in work-based learning experiences to assess skill development, provide support, and ensure appropriate workplace conditions.
  • Integrate Colorado Essential Skills, ICAP goals, and Career Cluster frameworks into student experiences and instruction.
  • Assist students with concurrent enrollment opportunities, registration processes, and articulation pathways with postsecondary institutions.
  • Develop and manage district career development incentive programs and track student participation data.
  • Collaborate with SWAP and other community organizations to ensure equitable access to career-connected learning opportunities for all students.
  • Collect and maintain required documentation, reports, and program data related to work-based learning and grant-funded initiatives.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

  • Bachelor\'s degree preferred.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS

SALARY

Per the Bayfield School District teacher salary schedule based on education and years of experience.
