Position Overview:
The primary role of the Director of Admissions position oversees admitting department operations and in consultation with Medical Practitioners, Nursing/Clinicians, and Business Office staff, assists with appropriate patient placement and compliance with applicable standards in the completion of preliminary paperwork and confirms that all insurance benefits coverage meets standards of admission as dictated by policy. Works closely with Discharge Planners/Coordinators from acute hospitals and intermediate care facilities, physicians, surgeons, other medical entities, and families for direct admissions in order to assist with the placement of patients.
Essential Duties:
- Communicates regularly and deploys meticulous follow up with discharge planners of acute hospitals, intermediate care facilities, health plans, physicians, surgeons, senior organizations, and other potential admission sources.
- Build and maintain strong relationships within the community to ensure high quality placement of patients, while meeting census goals.
- Maintains a presence in the community through the use of community outreach/educational opportunities, informational material presentations, tools such as trade shows, health fairs, facility visits, and advertising media.
- Maintains the software “Sales Force” database to company standards.
- Oversees and develops touring fundamentals and conducts in-house training sessions.
- Through the use of the Pre-admission Questionnaire (PAQ), prepares the facility for new admissions, while confirming all insurance benefit coverage, obtaining authorizations, and ensuring that all equipment needed for the care of the resident is readily available for the resident’s arrival.
- Oversee the admission paperwork essentials by monitoring the completion of admission agreements, ensuring the admission agreements are completed on time, and obtaining necessary documents to ensure coverage and the ability to collect reimbursement for services rendered.
- Attends daily staff meetings to report on activity and inform all staff members of special needs, upcoming admissions, and potential issues.
Qualifications:
- Must possess, as a minimum, a high school diploma or GED.
- Experience in skilled nursing or hospital setting.
- Thorough knowledge of medical, social, and financial information relating to skilled nursing care.
- Ability to communicate effectively and clearly with residents, families, co-workers, and others.
- Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with outside entities, residents, representatives, and other staff members.
- Working knowledge of computer equipment and software and is able to communicate with computer support staff.
- Leadership skills needed to effectively manage the operations of the admissions department.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and efficiently manage time.
- Knowledge and ability to maintain safety of all in order to minimize the potential for fire and accidents and knowledge of his/her role in carrying out the center’s fire, safety, and disaster plans, and the current MSDS.
