JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Augmented Intelligence (AuI) Operations is responsible for leading the evaluation, procurement, implementation, and optimization of artificial intelligence (AI) solutions across the Institution. The incumbent will be responsible for identifying and rapidly deploying best-in-class AI platforms to accelerate digital transformation initiatives and augment institutional human capital.
The Director will have oversight of the University's AI integration strategies, participate in institutional data governance initiatives, and drive adoption of AI services and tools.
This role will ensure that AI technologies are deployed ethically, effectively, and in alignment with institutional goals to improve student outcomes, administrative efficiency, and innovation. This senior leader will collaborate with academic, administrative, HR, and technology leaders to drive AI initiatives that support teaching, learning, research, and operational excellence.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Lead rapid evaluation cycles for AI platforms across functional areas, including proof-of-concept trials.
- Develop and maintain frameworks for evaluating AI platform capabilities, pricing, security, and scalability.
- Negotiate enterprise agreements, maximizing value while minimizing long-term commitments.
- Develop relationships across functional boundaries with a goal of creating a network of individuals who can champion the embrace and use of AI powered technologies.
- Develop and execute the University's AI operations strategy, aligning initiatives with institutional goals.
- Oversee AI governance, ensuring compliance with regulatory, ethical, legal, and privacy standards.
- Lead cross-functional teams to implement AI-enabled solutions across academic and administrative units.
- Manage and maintain, with the support of others, the data and integrity of AI assets, including vaults and repositories, to ensure their optimal performance.
- Establish performance metrics and reporting to evaluate AI effectiveness and impact.
- Serve as a thought leader and subject matter expert on AI trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Build partnerships with vendors, researchers, and peer institutions to advance AI capabilities.
- Collaborate with IT, HR, and academic leadership to ensure system integration and data reliability.
- Provide training and guidance for faculty, staff, and administrators on AI applications.
- Manage AI-related budgets, resources, and project timelines.
- Attend trainings as required.
- Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned by the University.
Job Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or related field required; Master's preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in AI operations, data analytics, or enterprise technology leadership.
- Proven experience in deploying AI solutions within large, complex organizations (higher education experience preferred).
- Strong knowledge of AI/ML technologies, data governance, and ethical AI frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability in systems thinking, analyzing complex processes, identifying opportunities for improvement, and implementing innovative solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to look at complex ecosystems and think critically about opportunities, risks, and consequences.
- Demonstrated ability to engage and influence stakeholders across diverse teams to achieve shared objectives.
- Proven success in fostering cross-functional partnerships and guiding teams toward common goals.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects and initiatives from concept to execution.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all members of the University community, including students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Fluent in English; Spanish fluency preferred.
- Ability to adhere to University policies and procedures.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion, in compliance with FERPA and HIPAA guidelines.
- Completion of FERPA, Anti-Harassment, and other required online trainings within 15 days of employment.
- General knowledge of the University's mission, purpose, and goals, and understanding of how this position contributes to achieving them.
