The electrical apprentice1 needs to assist the electrician with installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures
Essential Functions
- Gather tools and supplies to be used at work site according to instructions
- Measure, cut, and bend wire and conduit, using measuring instruments and hand tools
- Trace out short circuits in wiring, using test meter
- Strip insulation from wire ends, using wire stripping pliers, and attach wires to terminals for subsequent soldering
- Examine electrical units for loose connections and broken insulation and tighten connections, using hand tools
- Construct controllers and panels, using power drills, drill presses, taps, saws, and punches
- Assists in lifting, positioning, or fastening objects, such as wiring, conduit, and motors
- Perform minor repairs such as replacing fuses, light sockets, bulbs, and switches
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks
- Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company’s safety culture
- Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned
- High School Diploma or GED required
- At least 3 to 5 years’ experience in electrical apprentice
- Electrical apprentice license is required
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in construction
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day information
- Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities
- Ability to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments – results oriented
- Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines
- Ability to work non-routine hours, when necessary
- Ability and willingness to travel as required
- Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas
- Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
- Ability to operate job related tools
- Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers
- Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help
