Summary
Full-time/Part-time Full-Time Position Type Faculty Job Summary/Basic Function
The primary responsibility is the instruction of practical and/or associate degree nursing students in theory, lab, and clinical settings, which requires teaching a combination of courses related to pharmacology, fundamentals, geriatrics, and medical-surgical nursing. In addition, the faculty member has various responsibilities related to professional development, curriculum development, student advising and success, as well as activities that support the College and allied health division operational success.

Instruct courses in lecture, lab, and clinical nursing through the use of appropriate learning experiences which provide the opportunity to meet overall course objectives and program goals.

Assist the Division Chair, Dean, Director of Nursing, and Faculty in developing, implementing, and evaluating approved academic programs.
Job Duty
Create a classroom environment conducive to the development of critical thinking, critical reading skills and communication skills.
Job Duty
Conducts all classes in accordance with an established and current course syllabus, submitted following established guidelines each semester, and the approved textbook and/or related instructional materials.
Job Duty
Maintains student attendance, grade, and discipline records as required by the college.
Job Duty
Actively support student success through counseling, advising and assisting individual and groups of students as needed by maintaining regular student hours and/or scheduled student appointments.
Job Duty
Provide assistance and leadership to part-time faculty who are teaching specified nursing courses.
Job Duty
Participate actively in department, division, college-wide meetings, as well as continuous improvement teams.
Job Duty
Participate in professional activities such as, but not limited to, curriculum planning, syllabus writing, examination development, textbook selection, program revision, outcome assessment and accreditation activities.

Maintain an active program of professional development related to professional and institutional needs.

Assist with student recruitment and retention.

Develop, foster, and maintain effective communication and relationships between the faculty, administration, affiliating health care agencies, peers, students and college personnel to assure continuity and academic integrity in all areas of Allied Health.

Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in nursing
- Current Michigan Registered Nursing licensure or eligibility for Michigan licensure
- Two years’ full-time successful work experience in registered nursing
- Ability to assist nursing students in the clinic with the delivery of patient care
- Clinical competency in specialty area
- Basic life support certification
- Commitment to quality instruction in a learner-centered environment with the goal of consistently improving student success
- Commitment to the community college mission and philosophy, and to practical and associate degree nursing
- Ability to provide inclusive and accessible teaching and learning approaches for diverse student populations
- Demonstrated skill in effective written and oral communications
- Demonstrated literacy in information technology and computer use
- Willingness to learn and implement new teaching strategies as needed to enhance student success
- Commitment to value, respect, and provide an equitable learning experience in an inclusive, welcoming environment; standing against discrimination or harassment to educate all students regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, veteran or military status, or other protected status

- Willingness and ability to travel to placement sites
