NATURE OF JOB:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Troubleshoots, repairs, maintains and/or calibrates mechanical, electrical, electronic and ancillary equipment associated with the Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility, inclusive of items such as pumps, valves, motors, air compressors, sensors and telemetry equipment, ultraviolet light disinfection equipment, solids centrifuge equipment, flow meters, generators and related equipment.
• Maintains complete and accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities and a plant-wide parts/supplies inventory in a computer-based format.
• Fabricates and/or installs minor equipment and piping modifications and additions to the plant process.
• Performs equipment vibration analysis and thermal imaging to develop predictive maintenance needs and schedule.
• Assures plant work-order process remains up to date, with minimal backlogged work orders.
• Supervises and schedules day to day work for assigned Maintenance Mechanics and assist in completing performance evaluations for subordinates.
• Performs and assures that all equipment is in check with the plant’s preventative maintenance program.
• Tracks and maintains tasks and preventative maintenance items in CMMS, provide weekly updates to supervisor. The employer may add to or change duties at any time and as determined by the County and its leaders to best ensure that the public is served through the work of the Department.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Possess a high school diploma or the equivalent; AND
• Three (3) years of experience in the repair and maintenance of the types of equipment found in either industrial plants, refineries, chemical plants, commercial shipyards, water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants, and/or collection systems
• A comparable amount of training and/or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications, with the exception of the CDL and certification requirements.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS:

Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain a valid Florida driver license upon offer of employment with a driving record acceptable to the County Driving Policy and insurance program.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of repair and maintenance procedures for the types of equipment found at a SBR type Wastewater treatment facility, and in the BNR chamber advanced wastewater treatment facility.
• Knowledge of and experience using a wide assortment of hand and power tools and other repair or maintenance equipment, including safety equipment.
• Knowledge of safety procedures and precautions required when performing maintenance tasks on equipment typically found in the wastewater plants.
• Knowledge of project management and organizational skills.
• Ability to have excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work and maintain reliable full-time attendance.
• Ability to comprehend, speak, and read the English language.
• Ability to have and maintain good interpersonal and communication skills to deal with the public.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, subordinates, water plant lead mechanic, and supervisors.
• Ability to operate backhoes, end loaders, and tractors.
• Ability to evaluate a mechanical issue/problem, and determine the most reliable/cost efficient solution.
• Ability to work with others problem solving, and evaluate multiple viewpoints to arrive at the most effective solution.
• Ability to read and comprehend complex technical information and mechanical drawings concerning equipment construction, repair and maintenance procedures.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Work is primarily performed outdoors and requires exposure to environmental changes (e.g., outdoor weather and/or field conditions, warehouses, garages, etc.) or irate customers, extreme noise, odors, heights and/or dust.

This position requires some exposure or risk to physical health and/or physical safety (e.g., exposure to environmentally hazardous material, heavy equipment, etc.). This position may require the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and may include completing and successfully passing medical evaluations or clearances.

This position requires stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, visual acuity (i.e. seeing up close, seeing far away, depth perception), kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, climbing, finger movement, repetitive motions. This position may require frequent lifting and carrying of 25-50lbs, and occasionally up to 100lbs.

WORK LOCATION:

Not Eligible for Remote Work - This position is assigned to a county worksite. Due to the non-portable nature of the essential functions of this position, this position is not eligible for telework.
