RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Bay-Arenac Community High School Student Mental Wellness Liaison supports the social-emotional and mental health needs of students by managing the Calm Room and providing a safe, structured environment for those experiencing emotional or behavioral challenges. This role focuses on fostering positive relationships with students, promoting coping strategies, and helping them engage successfully in their academic and school activities. The liaison works collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and support staff to ensure students receive timely guidance and support, while maintaining confidentiality and upholding the school's commitment to a safe and supportive learning environment.
- Manage the Calm Room daily, providing a safe, supportive environment for students experiencing emotional or behavioral challenges.
- Monitor student behavior and provide guidance in coping strategies, social-emotional learning, and conflict resolution.
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students as needed, including check-ins, mentoring, or short-term interventions.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to address student needs and promote a positive school climate.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions, following FERPA guidelines.
- Complete daily time and effort log.
- Assist with school-wide initiatives supporting student mental health, well-being, and engagement.
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, and school events.
- Adapt daily activities and support strategies to meet the changing needs of students.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee, consistent with the scope of the role.
