Job description:
Bay Area Training Academy (BATA) is seeking a passionate and experienced Primary EMT Instructor to lead and inspire the next generation of EMTs. The Primary EMT Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and supporting student success through hands-on education, mentorship, and evaluation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging instruction in the core EMT curriculum
- Teach EVOC, CPR, EMT Prep, or other assigned courses within your scope of practice
- Provide hands-on skills training and clinical methodology
- Prepare students for written and oral examinations
- Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and student progress
- Enforce academic and behavioral standards, including probation if necessary
- Evaluate student comprehension and retention
- Ensure program compliance with all state and local EMS regulations
- Support achievement of school-wide benchmarks, including attrition, course completion, and NREMT pass rates.
- Participate in faculty meetings and ongoing professional development
- Serve as the lead instructor for assigned courses
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of recent EMS experience (preferably 911 system) within the last 5 years
- Current certification/licensure in California as one of the following:
- Paramedic
- EMT or Advanced EMT (Must also have college degree)
- Registered Nurse
- Current CPR certification
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certification must match or exceed the level of instruction provided
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work evenings/weekends
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous teaching or training experience in EMS or healthcare
- Knowledge of NREMT standards and California EMS regulations
- One of the following:
- (1) California State Fire Marshal (CSFM) “Fire Instructor 1A and 1B”; or
- (2) National Fire Academy (NFA) “Fire Service Instructional Methodology” course; or
- (3) NAEMSE Certificate (abbreviated from Title-22)
Full Time work Schedule:
32 to 40 hours a week; 4 or 5 days a week depending on class schedules, likely to include one weekend day
