Compensation: $75 per session
About the Role
We're looking for a hands-on and engaging STEAM Instructor to lead an after-school program for elementary students in Sebastopol.
This role is a strong fit for someone who enjoys helping students explore science, engineering, technology, design, and problem-solving through creative, project-based activities. Lessons may include building challenges, simple engineering projects, experiments, robotics, circuits, and other hands-on STEAM activities.
Responsibilities
- Lead engaging, age-appropriate STEAM lessons and projects.
- Guide students through hands-on science, engineering, and design activities.
- Explain concepts clearly and make technical ideas accessible to elementary students.
- Encourage creativity, experimentation, teamwork, and problem-solving.
- Support students through building, testing, troubleshooting, and improving their projects.
- Prepare lesson materials and equipment before each session.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and well-managed classroom environment.
- Communicate professionally with school staff and program coordinators.
- Submit brief after-class session reports and maintain timely communication with the program team.
Requirements
- Experience working with elementary-aged children.
- Background or experience in STEAM, STEM, science, engineering, robotics, coding, makerspace activities, or a related area.
- Comfortable leading hands-on projects and demonstrations.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Dependable, organized, patient, and professional.
- Ability to commit consistently to the Fall 2026 program schedule.
- Ability to complete required TB clearance and background check before beginning the assignment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience teaching STEAM, STEM, robotics, coding, engineering, or science.
- Experience with LEGO robotics, circuits, building challenges, experiments, or maker activities.
- Background in education, engineering, computer science, science, or a related field.
- Experience leading after-school, camp, tutoring, or youth enrichment programs.
