Bay Area Pet Adoptions is currently hiring for an additional kennel technician position. If you are interested in a full-time position as a kennel tech, please read carefully.
In the role of Kennel Technician, you will be essential in providing high-quality care for animals in our facility.
Candidates with verifiable work experience as a kennel tech are preferred. Only applicants with current resumes will be considered. References will be verified.
The shelter is staffed 7 days a week. Availability to work weekends and holidays is required.
This position includes but is not limited to:
- Keeping the dog kennels, yards and facility property clean and tidy, cleaning and disinfecting kennel buildings, laundry, proper feeding, rotating dogs in/out of play yards, walking and socializing dogs, canine enrichment, medicating and/or monitoring sick and injured animals, providing quality care for all our shelter animals, in addition to assisting with adoption counseling and communicating with the public.
- Observe animal appearance and activity for general physical condition, obvious signs of illness, injury, disease or discontent and report any changes to leadership immediately.
You must be comfortable working with all sizes, breeds and temperaments of dogs.
REQUIREMENTS
- A valid driver's license is required.
- Must have reliable, daily transportation.
- Must be reliable and show up to work on time, ready to work. Tardiness is not acceptable.
- Must be available to work holidays and weekends.
- Ability to perform moderately heavy physical labor.
- Ability to work in hot and cold temperatures.
- Possess strong communication skills. You must have the ability to communicate with staff members, leadership, volunteers and the public.
- Ability to be productive, efficient, and respectful during high stress periods.
- Willingness to learn and ability to retain information taught.
- Apply knowledge and skills in controlling/handling individual animal temperament.
- Ability to gain animal confidence when restraining them for transport, grooming and/or treatment.
- You must treat all animals with respect and kindness.
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments. Understand and carry out oral and written direction.

- Frequently required to bend, stand, stoop, walk, sit, communicate, and listen, frequently working in a bent position.
- Frequently use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel; will reach and carry with hands and arms.
- Frequently on your feet for most of the day.
- Use strength or agility in capturing and restraining stronger, more active animals.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Occasionally handle dogs weighing up to and over 150 lbs. Assistance will be provided by animal handlers when working with larger animals.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to hazards associated with dogs and cats of all sizes, breeds and temperaments; exposure to unpleasant odors and loud noises; exposure to bites, scratches and animal wastes; and possible exposure to contagious diseases.
