Overview:
Bay Area Innovations specializes in the concept, design, prototyping, production, and logistics phases of product development. We design and develop products across a vast array of industries with each project independently and intellectually unique. The Product Design Engineer is a hybrid contracting position that will design and develop unique and innovative products for our clients. Design work includes concept ideas, project planning and definition, critical research, design for manufacturing, completed documentation packages, prototype assemblies and analysis, client feedback integration, and more. The ideal candidate needs to have 5 years of product development experience using 3D CAD design software and an insatiable motivation to solve complex problems. This position will work closely with our clients and within the engineering team ensuring that all deadlines and expectations are met.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
· Performs engineering project management tasks
· Works to complete projects within budget and scheduling restraints provided by management
· Create conceptual design models, renderings and 2D drawings as needed for new product development and marketing
· Full design and development of new products/parts utilizing CAD software and manufacturing knowledge
· Work with other team members and outside contractors as needed
· Create design summary analysis for presentation to customers
· Create product documentation packages
· Analyze and document prototype builds and make design changes as needed
· Performs thermal analysis of products using SolidWorks Flow Simulation software and physical testing apparatus
· Responsible for design changes and improvements to existing products and implements changes based on approval from the Director of Engineering
· Supports manufacturing with design changes and supporting documentation
· Report on tasks and projects utilizing MS Planner project management tool
· Document hours and allocate to appropriate customer/project using QuickBooks time tracking tool
· Perform other assigned tasks as directed by management
· Adheres to all company policies, procedures, and business ethics codes
Required Skills:
· 5 years of recent experience designing in a CAD Software (3D modeling and 2D drawing creation)
· High level of understanding of the following manufacturing techniques
o Sheet metal fabrication
o CNC punching
o Laser cutting
o Sheet metal bending
o Die castings
o Sand castings
o Investment castings
o Thermoforming/Vacuum forming
o Injection molding
· Understanding of tolerances as it relates to assemblies and manufacturing techniques
· Ability to take direction and comprehend design feedback and intent
· High level of organizational and analytical skills
· Computer skills - Microsoft Office
· Exemplary written, oral, and presentation skills
Preferred Skills:
· SolidWorks PDM Vault experience
Educational/Certification/License Requirements:
· B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (from an accredited college)
