Job Description:
Bay Area First Step (BAFS) is a peer-run organization serving both Coos and Curry counties. BAFS operates NARR accredited recovery residences, outpatient substance use disorder treatment, peer delivered Recovery Support Services, and Recovery Community Centers. This job description does not list all duties required. You may be asked to perform other tasks.
General Duties and Responsibilities
- Understand and adhere to all BAFS policies and procedures and assist staff in understanding and following those policies.
- Develop a working knowledge of organizational structure, governance, and internal operations.
- Develop positive working relationships with staff, leadership, consultants, and partner agencies.
- Maintain professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality with sensitive organizational and personnel information.
- Report safety, compliance, or policy concerns to the Executive Director as appropriate.
- Attend staff meetings
- Be available for consultation and support related to systems or compliance matters, including after hours when applicable.
Role-Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Connect clients to HCV testing and treatment through the PATHS CC program.
- Accompany clients to labs for follow up HCV testing.
- Connect clients to same day access MAT providers.
- Coordinate syphilis testing and treatment with local providers and public health
- Report HIV, HCV, Syphilis and other reportable STIs to public health and OHA.
- Conduct intake and follow up GPRA’s with clients who have 3 or more engagements.
- Distribute and track gift card incentives.
- Provide clients with harm reduction services and harm reduction education.
- Engage clients through fixed site/direct street outreach, walk ins and community referrals.
- Attend weekly PRIME peer huddles.
- Attend annual PRIME state wide convergence.
- Attend the annual Peerpocalypse Conference.

- Practices active listening and solution focused communication.
Training, Experience, and Competency Requirements
- Experience providing counseling and/or client support services preferred.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Possess or obtain any of the following certifications: Peer Support Specialist - Adult Addictions - CRM or Peer Wellness Specialist - Adult Addictions - PWS within 90 days of employment
- Valid Oregon driver's license required.
Additional Conditions of Employment
- Outside employment is limited and must be approved by the Executive Director to ensure job performance is not compromised.
- All time off or extended periods away from work must be approved by the Executive Director.
