The Transit Operations Manager is an essential part of the transit leadership team.  Oversee transit operations for 12 counties and supervises administrative support personnel of Bay Transit.   Experienced professionals are encouraged to apply for this key role.  Direct reports include  Transit Regional Operational Supervisors, Transit Operations Specialist.  Reports to the Transit Director. Salary:  $80,000/yr-$120,000/yr (Depends On Experience)

Essential functions

  1. Personnel: supervise 3 regional transit operations centers and 4 satellite offices; coach and manage Regional Operations Supervisors; ensures consistency of procedures and practices across the operations centers.; supervise the Bay Transit admin staff and Operations Specialist.
  2. Conduct department investigations as necessary, i.e. employee, passenger, etc.
  3. Assist Transit Director: carry out special projects and contribute to the Transit division budget projections.
  4. Procurement: authorize purchasing for all 3 regional offices.
  5. Represent Bay Transit in the community: attend meeting and training sessions to increase the Agency’s visibility in the service area.
  6. Assist with developing and implementing long-range transit plans, and goals to meet community needs and improve services. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Rely on extensive experience to accomplish the goals of the position. Perform a wide variety of tasks. Understand the importance of good customer service and impart a “can do” attitude in the Transit organization. Success in this role requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.  

Decision making- Inform supervisor of all hiring, terminating, and disciplinary decisions.

Working knowledge of:

  • Scheduling software e.g. TripMaster.
  • Transportation and dispatching procedures.
  • Microsoft Office programs (e.g. word processing, spreadsheet, e-mail).

Ability to:

  • Communicate verbally with employees, passengers and community leaders. Make presentations to small and large groups.
  • Communication in writing (e.g. reports)
  • Supervise diverse employees.
  • Work in and away from the office and travel independently in the service area. Attend community functions within the Agency’s service area in the evening and occasionally on weekends. Occasional overnight travel required.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Office-based position with minimal physical requirements (ability to lift 15lbs, walking and climbing stairs).  20% of the essential functions of the position can be performed virtually.

Qualifications:

An associate’s degree is preferred or a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the transportation industry. You must possess a valid driver’s license. This is an exempt position.

FLSA status: This is an exempt position.
