Position Summary:
The Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) provides compassionate, high-quality care to women during all phases of the childbirth process β antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and neonatal care. The L&D RN plays a key role in ensuring the safety and well-being of both mother and baby through expert clinical judgment, emotional support, and collaborative teamwork with obstetricians, midwives, and neonatal specialists.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct care to patients during labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum stages.
- Monitor maternal and fetal vital signs, uterine activity, and fetal heart rate patterns, intervening as needed.
- Assist physicians and midwives during vaginal deliveries, C-sections, and obstetric emergencies.
- Administer medications, including oxytocin, magnesium sulfate, epidural infusions, and pain control agents.
- Manage and care for patients with high-risk pregnancies or complications such as preeclampsia, preterm labor, or gestational diabetes.
- Provide emotional support, patient education, and guidance to mothers and families throughout the birthing process.
- Initiate and support breastfeeding and newborn bonding immediately after delivery.
- Maintain accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, and patient progress in the EMR.
- Collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary team, including obstetricians, anesthesiologists, and neonatal nurses.
- Ensure adherence to infection control, patient safety, and hospital policies at all times.
Qualifications:
- Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice (or compact state).
- BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications required.
- Fetal Monitoring Certification (EFM) preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of recent L&D nursing experience in a hospital setting preferred.
- Strong assessment and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for patient and family interaction.
- Proficiency in EMR systems (Epic, Cerner, or Meditech preferred).
