SUMMARY
Responsible and accountable for abstracting pertinent information from patient health records and assigning accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes in accordance with official coding guidelines, payer requirements, and organizational policies. Reviews clinical documentation to ensure coding accuracy, medical necessity, and appropriate reimbursement while supporting regulatory compliance. Performs charge review, claim preparation, billing support, and denial resolution activities as assigned. Collaborates with providers, clinical staff, and the hospital revenue cycle team to improve documentation quality, optimize reimbursement, and maintain the integrity of the coding and billing process. Ensures all work is completed in a timely, accurate, and confidential manner while supporting the financial performance and compliance objectives of the Wound Center and Hospital Billing Department.

Required to work with the Program Director regularly to carryout, initiate and/or implement best practices for the Baxter Health Wound Healing Department.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education: High school diploma
Experience: Minimum of one year experience in Health Information, one year of medical terminology. Enrolled in Coding Certification Program. Certifications: Coding certification required within one year from effective date in position. CCS from the American Health Information Management Association or COC/CIC from the American Academy of Professional Coders
Other: In-depth knowledge of federal and state employment laws. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, databases and general office equipment. Must be extremely detail oriented, organized and conscientious to ensure high quality work. Excellent time-management and follow-up skills to ensure work deadlines are met.
Outstanding communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. Must be a positively contributing team
player and possess willingness to be cross-trained in other functional areas. Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality with regard to employment data, HIPAA, and departmental operations.

This is a position in a clinical outpatient setting which is open 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, Monday – Friday, 8-4:30 hour shifts.
