Commercial Counsel, North America

As a rapidly growing company an expanding footprint within North America, we are building a Legal department with the ability to scale to meet the needs of the company. This role—reporting to the Head of Legal and Compliance, North America—will serve as a lead contracting attorney for our North American operations and will have opportunities to gain skills supporting vaccine commercialization and compliance. This position will also assist with a range of other matters which would include healthcare compliance laws, privacy, marketing and dispute resolution. While our US offices are based in Durham, North Carolina, there is an opportunity for this role to be based remotely within the United States for someone with availability for East Coast hours and occasional travel.

Your Responsibilities
- Develop strong business knowledge and collaborate with colleagues to deliver fair, well-constructed contracts that protect the company’s interests and achieve business objectives
- Responsible for providing ongoing advice and support related to a wide variety of contracts, including the drafting, review, and negotiation of master service agreements and statements of work with vendors, healthcare professionals, healthcare payers, and others
- Assist in development, implementation and execution of the North American Compliance Program, including providing advice, developing policies, conducting training, monitoring and auditing activities
- Lead, anticipate, and drive solutions for a range of legal and business issues
- Provide advice regarding commercial/business disputes related to contracts
- Review, implement, communicate, enforce, and monitor contract process, Anti-Kickback Statute and healthcare laws and regulations compliance
- Work closely with Head of Legal & Compliance, North America and outside counsel on relevant matters
- Maintain efficiency and timely response to internal stakeholders, with a customer service mindset
- Provide advice and counsel on a range of issues related to vaccines commercialization in North America, including commercial operations, advertising and promotional issues, distribution, state laws, pricing and contracting, corporate compliance and employment law
- Assist in development, implementation and execution of the North American
- Compliance Program, including providing advice, monitoring and auditing activities
- Conduct other legal research as needed
Skills & Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree and Juris Doctor from accredited universities
- Member in good standing with a state bar in the United States, with eligibility for in-house practice
- 1-2 years of experience developing and implementing legal solutions; business litigation; reviewing, drafting and negotiating contracts; or delivering business-focused legal advice
- Demonstrated understanding of compliance principles
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information

- Availability for occasional travel, including internationally (<10% travel)

- A quiet, dedicated area for focused remote work with limited interruptions
Preferred Requirements:
- 2-3 years of direct experience with health care and pharmaceutical law, including relevant legal experience in a law firm or in-house legal department
- Ability to analyze and interpret complex legislation and regulations
- Team player capable of leading and participating within cross-functional project teams to meet key milestones under tight timelines
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation styles to interact with diverse audiences, including outside attorneys, senior management, and business associates
- Strong work ethic with the initiative to work independently
- Detail oriented with a high level of accuracy in their work

Salary Range - $110k - $200k
