Grader & Plow Driver Operator

Purpose of Position- Maintenance Operator

The purpose of position in this classification is to perform summer and winter road maintenance for the Battle Lake Motor Patrol Association, which includes roads for three townships.

Essentials Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Operates snowplow and sanding/salting truck to remove ice and snow from roads which require early morning starts, extended hours and weekend duty.
• Patrols roads for hazard, show/ice conditions and maintenance/repair needs. Reports hazards to supervisor board members.
• Operates CAT 150 Grader to maintain three townships gravel roads.
• Performs routine equipment maintenance/repair tasks such as but not limited to changing vehicle fluids, fueling, greasing, painting, etc.
• Loads and hauls sand and gravel in a dump truck. Mixes sand and salt.
• Inspects equipment on a regularly scheduled basis. Complies with safety precautions.
• Supervise snow plow truck drivers.

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

Individual must possess a high school diploma or equivalent with prior responsible work experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. A valid Commercial driver’s license without restrictions and valid CDL with air brake is required.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to operate equipment and machinery requiring monitoring multiple conditions and making multiple, complex, and rapid adjustments, such as snowplow truck, motor grader, arc welder, cutting torch, grinders, mechanic’s hand tools, shovels and rakes.
• Ability to repair complex equipment and machinery.
• Ability to exert moderately heavy physical effort in moderate to heavy work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling. Ability to physically lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

Environmental Adaptability

• Ability to work under moderately safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to environmental factors such as temperature variations and extremes, odors/smoke, toxic agents, violence, noise, machinery, electrical currents, wetness and/or dust, may cause some discomfort and where there is a risk of injury.

Pay: Up to $100,000.00 per year
