What are the responsibilities and job description for the Machine Operator position at Battenkill Fibers Carding & Spinning Mill?
Locally-owned textile manufacturing company is looking to fill several Machine Operator positions immediately. First and second shift is available. These are permanent 20-40 hour/week positions related to yarn production.
You’ll ensure the efficient running of production including wool scouring, carding, combing, spinning, plying or winding. We are looking for a couple of great machine operators who are reliable and able to work with attention to detail and safety standards. Good math and communications skills essential. You should be comfortable with multi-tasking. Prior manufacturing or textile-related experience is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities
- Set up machines (calibration, cleaning etc.) to start a production cycle
- Control and adjust machine settings (e.g. speed)
- Feed raw material to semi-automated machines
- Inspect output with precision measuring tools
- Fix issues that might occur during the shift
- Check output to spot any machine-related mistakes or flaws
- Maintain activity logs
Skills
- Proven experience as a machine operator
- Working knowledge of diverse high-speed machinery and measurement tools (caliper, micrometer etc.)
- Understanding of production procedures
- Adherence to health and safety regulations (e.g. constant use of protective gear)
- Ability to read shop orders
- Analytical and strong math skills
- Attention to detail
- Teamwork and communication skills
- Physical stamina and strength
- High school diploma or equivalent is a plus
