Registered Nurse (RN) – LDRP & Women’s Services
Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum, OB Triage, and Women’s Surgical Services
Required Qualifications
- Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Louisiana
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) (must be current or obtained during orientation)
- Ability to safely care for pregnant patients from triage through delivery and postpartum recovery, as well as stable newborns
- Competency in maternal and fetal assessment, fetal heart rate monitoring, and interpretation of maternal–fetal status
- Ability to work in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment, including obstetrical emergencies
- Strong critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills
- Ability to rotate between OB Triage (OBED), LDR, Postpartum/Mother-Baby, and Women’s Surgical cases as unit needs require
- Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) documentation and timely, accurate charting
- Commitment to patient- and family-centered care and safety standards
Preferred Qualifications
- 1–2 years of experience in Labor & Delivery, LDRP, Mother-Baby, or Women’s Services nursing
- Experience caring for patients receiving magnesium sulfate, insulin infusions, and hypertensive emergency protocols
- Experience assisting with vaginal and cesarean deliveries
- Experience in OB triage/OBED assessment and prioritization of obstetric complaints
- Experience assisting with gynecologic and women’s surgical procedures (e.g., D&C, hysterectomy, postoperative care)
- ACLS certification (not required)
- National specialty certification (e.g., RNC-OB, RNC-MNN)
Essential Clinical Competencies
- Perform obstetrical triage assessments, initiate orders per protocol, and identify emergent conditions
- Provide comprehensive care during labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum
- Continuous electronic fetal monitoring with prompt escalation of non-reassuring tracings
- Assist with immediate newborn transition and stabilization, including support during neonatal resuscitation until NICU arrival if needed
- Care for postpartum mother-baby couplets, including education, lactation support, and discharge readiness
- Provide perioperative and postoperative nursing care for women’s surgical patients as assigned
- Recognize and respond to obstetric emergencies such as hemorrhage, hypertensive crisis, shoulder dystocia, and precipitous delivery
Work Environment & Expectations
- 24/7 women’s services unit with rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call requirements as scheduled
- Requires the physical ability to stand, walk, lift, and assist patients during labor, delivery, and recovery
- Must function effectively in high-stress and emergent situations while maintaining professionalism and compassion
