The security officer is responsible for contributing to the safety and security of building, grounds, employees, and their valuables, supplies and equipment by performing a variety of security measures at Bath Community Hospital.
RESPONSIBILITIES

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Consults and keeps the responsible manager informed of all problems, needs, and activities on their shift.
- Maintains a keen sense of awareness, by observation during patrols, a safe environment for patients, employees, students and visitors.
- Checks assigned areas for unauthorized/suspicious persons, malfunctioning equipment, fire or safety hazards, and unlawful situations. Notifies authorities to report criminal activity or behavior.
- Provide own firearm (9mm, 40, 45 & 38 calibers) with hollow point ammunition only.
- Firearm must be inspected and approved by supervisor.
- Carry and maintain their approved weapon for de-escalation and defensive purposes
- Responsible for maintaining accurate daily/weekly logs and reports as required.
- Ensures that buildings and areas, are locked and unlocked as required.
- Responds to non-emergency calls for assistance, fire and burglary alarms, and backs up police officers as needed. Provides assistance with medical holds and other tasks as necessary.
- Controls parking areas and enforces parking regulations, provides motorist assistance, and gives direction for customer parking.
- Operates under the guidelines of Bath Community Hospital policy and procedures.
- Coordinates and works with local law enforcement agencies in certain cases involving Bath Community Hospital.
- High School diploma or equivalent education (preferred)
- Familiarity with surveillance equipment, access control systems, and emergency response protocols (preferred)
- Three to five years of military, law enforcement, or armed security officer experience (preferred)
- Must possess a valid Virginia driver license (required)
- Maintain Dept. of Justice or equivalent training in order to be armed (required)
- Basic computer knowledge (required)
- Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure (required)
- Work requires such activities as bending, stretching, stooping, or pushing. Occasional heavy lifting may be required.
- Stamina to stand, walk, or patrol for extended periods
- Occasional exposure to seasonal unpleasant environmental conditions or cramped workspace.
- May be exposed to combative patients or visitors, infectious diseases, and biohazardous materials including blood and bodily fluids requiring standard precautions.
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Agility and dexterity to respond quickly to emergencies or security incidents
