Job Summary
We are seeking a mature,compassionate and energetic Direct Support Professional to provide exceptional care and assistance to my adult son who has autism with daily activities to help him live more independently. Duties may include helping with personal care, meal preparation, transportation, and medication management, and also provide support for social activities, employment, and community integration.
Most days will include picking him up either at home or from an activity, taking him to other activities and taking an active role in finding new productive activities. Available on Friday afternoons a must.
Clean driver's license and insurance a must as you will be providing transportation in your vehicle. Valid CPR/first aid is required (would speed up the hiring process if you have current certification).
Key responsibilities
Promoting independence: Teaching life skills, supporting money management, and encouraging participation in social and community activities. Provide support during meals by preparing nutritious food, assisting with eating, and maintaining proper hygiene standards
Providing transportation: Driving clients to appointments, errands, or social outings.
Help Develop Social Skills: Encouraging participating in social activities and community outings to promote mental stimulation and socialization
Healthcare tasks: Observe patient behavior closely to identify potential health concerns or safety risks and communicate findings promptly to supervisors or healthcare professionals. Collaborate with healthcare teams, social workers, families, and other caregivers to coordinate comprehensive care strategies. Ability to provide CPR, First Aid or other lifesaving measures if necessary.
Administrative tasks: Completing paperwork like daily logs, behavioral assessments, and medication logs. Maintain a clean, safe environment by performing routine cleaning duties and adhering to infection control protocols
Experience
Candidates should have prior experience working in assisted living facilities, group homes, nursing homes, or home & community care environments. Experience with patient observation, medication administration, vital signs monitoring or working with individuals with disabilities is highly valued. Familiarity with care plans development and implementation is preferred. Applicants should demonstrate proficiency in basic caregiving tasks such as meal preparation, light cleaning related to resident needs, and managing emergency situations through CPR or first aid certification. Experience working within HIPAA regulations ensures confidentiality and respectful handling of sensitive information. A background in long-term care or home health services will be advantageous for success in this role.
