Responsibilities
- Receive emergency calls via telephone and radio communication systems, accurately assessing the situation and prioritizing responses.
- Utilize Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) software to log incidents, dispatch appropriate emergency units, and track response progress.
- Provide clear, concise instructions to callers for immediate actions while dispatching law enforcement, fire services, or medical personnel.
- Maintain detailed records of all communications, incident reports, and dispatch activities with excellent writing and transcription skills.
- Coordinate with law enforcement agencies using police dispatch procedures and analysis skills to ensure swift and effective response.
- Manage GPS and GIS (Geographic Information System) tools to locate callers precisely and optimize response routes.
- Handle phone triage by gathering critical information from distressed callers while demonstrating professionalism and empathy through phone etiquette.
Requirements
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure; strong negotiation and conflict management abilities are a plus.
- Demonstrated technical proficiency in telephony systems, typing speed, and radio communication systems.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with analysis skills for effective decision-making during emergencies.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications related to emergency services or telecommunications are advantageous.
