Position Summary
BATA PLASTICS is looking for a reliable and safety-focused Forklift Operator / Material Handler to support our plastics recycling production operation.
This position is responsible for removing processed materials from the grinder, performing quality checks and testing, packaging and labeling finished materials, and safely moving materials throughout the facility. The top priority is maintaining a steady workflow while ensuring materials meet quality standards.
Shift Available
- 2nd Shift: 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a sit-down forklift to safely move materials throughout the facility
- Remove and handle processed materials from the grinder
- Perform quality testing and visually inspect materials for quality or machine-standard issues
- Package, label, and prepare finished materials for shipment or storage
- Build, stack, band, and move pallets, skids, boxes, and finished goods as needed
- Move excess stacks of skids and boxes to trailers
- Operate equipment such as forklifts, strap banders/sealers, industrial scales, and other basic production tools
- Communicate with Machine Operators and Supervisors regarding material quality and production concerns
- Complete required productivity, quality, and production documentation accurately
- Perform daily forklift/Hilo maintenance and safety checks
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area throughout the shift
- Follow all company safety procedures, including lock-out/tag-out requirements
- Work effectively with team members from a variety of backgrounds and experience levels
- Identify problems, communicate concerns, and assist with resolving production or material issues
Qualifications
- Previous forklift experience required; sit-down/propane forklift experience preferred
- Warehouse, manufacturing, production, or plastics industry experience strongly preferred
- Prior plastics identification or recycling experience is a plus
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks throughout the shift
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Reliable, dependable, and able to follow instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors
- Basic math skills, including whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
- Ability to read and understand written instructions, procedures, and documentation
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to adjust quickly to changing production conditions
Training Provided by BATA PLASTICS
BATA provides the training and certification needed to perform the job safely and effectively, including:
- Forklift driving, safety certification, and licensing
- Lock-out/tag-out training
- Plastics 101
- Plastics 103
Prior plastics identification experience is a plus, but training is provided.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Industrial plastics recycling and production environment
- Moderate to heavy noise levels
- Standing for extended periods throughout the shift
- Frequent use of hands for handling, grasping, reaching, and operating equipment
- Ability to walk throughout the plant and occasionally climb, stoop, crouch, and bend
- Ability to visually identify material that does not meet quality or machine standards
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Overtime, extended hours, various shifts, and occasional unscheduled workdays may be required based on production needs
