Solution Development Engineer

A Solution Development Engineer develops strong relationships throughout the Applications group and provides exceptional solutions with accurate costing that consist of autonomous vehicles, custom automation and robotics that meet Bastian Solutions’ customer’s needs. These engineered solutions require an excellent understanding of material flow, information flow, system design principles and general business processes. Solution Development Engineers will frequently partner with Applications Engineers during the pursuit of opportunities. Solution Development Engineers will primarily be responsible for the technical aspects in pursuit of opportunities including, detailed design, data analysis, simulations, firm costing estimates, etc.

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field
• Material handling automation beneficial
• Strong technical aptitude
• Proficient in MS Office, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with internal teams and end users
• Ability to travel 10% for business needs
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  
  

Job Description

• Supports opportunities by completing the technical aspects required to provide Bastian Solutions’ customers with robust solutions and accurate pricing.
• Develop and design material handling solutions that consist of custom equipment, robotics, conveyance and autonomous vehicles that are cost effective, innovative, tailored to client specifications and industry standards.
• Work closely with Applications Engineers to understand the end users’ needs and provide technical expertise to propose the optimal solution
• Collaborate with all groups within Bastian Solutions and our sister companies, including, sales, engineering, and production teams to ensure seamless integration of custom solutions.
• Provide technical content, including firm cost estimates, estimated project schedules, and specifications that clearly outline the functionality and scope being proposed.
• Stay updated on industry trends and technology advancements to continuously improve our solution offerings.
• Allot the appropriate amount of time engineering solutions to identify and mitigate design risks.
• Quickly identifies critical information required to ensure proposed solutions and pricing estimates are robust, accurate, and delivered to our customers in a timely manner.
• Strive to provide exceptional customers service to earn internal customer references.
• Communicate strategic information regarding suppliers, customers, and competition.
• Set the execution team up for success with a high-quality handoff of project requirements.
• Participation in improving and developing tools used in system concepting and estimating.
• Simulate proposed solutions as necessary.
• Validate system throughput.
• Perform historical costing to ensure that pricing estimates are accurate.
• Support projects as necessary through the project execution phase.
• Occasional travel to support opportunity development.
• Complete all administrative tasks in a timely manner and follow company guidelines.
