Engineering Lab Technician

Job Overview

We are seeking an Engineering Lab Technician to support testing, validation, and lab operations for automated material handling products. This hands-on role focuses on executing test setups, maintaining equipment, collecting measurement data, and supporting engineering through reliable, repeatable testing activities. The ideal candidate is organized, mechanically inclined, and committed to maintaining a safe, efficient, and highly functional lab environment.

Job Functions

• Set up, configure, and execute electro-mechanical product tests under direction from engineering.
• Use measurement tools and basic instrumentation (multimeters, micrometers, dial indicators, load cells, etc.) to collect, record, and verify test data.
• Maintain 5S standards, cleanliness, and organization across the Engineering Lab and Innovation Center.
• Maintain, calibrate, and track lab equipment, tools, and fixtures to ensure proper operation and readiness.
• Support problem-solving and troubleshooting activities during product testing, providing clear feedback to engineering.
• Assist in building, repairing, or modifying test fixtures, setups, and test articles.
• Operate and maintain automation-related equipment used in testing and demonstrations (conveyance, pneumatics, wiring, test stands, etc.).
• Document observations, anomalies, and basic test results in a clear and repeatable manner.
• Follow all lab safety and PPE requirements, identifying hazards and contributing to safe work practices.
• Participate in continuous improvement (Kaizen) and lab optimization activities.
• Learn and support introductory PLC, data-acquisition, and instrumentation tasks as skills grow.

Preferred Skills And Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications or vocational training are a plus
• Several years of hands-on experience working with electro-mechanical machinery, automation equipment, maintenance systems, or similar technical environments.
• Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision and capable of self-directed problem solving.
• Ability to confidently collaborate with and challenge engineers when presenting findings, issues, or concerns.
• Proficient with standard measurement tools and basic electrical troubleshooting tools.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with wiring, assembly, and basic troubleshooting.
• Ability to interpret simple engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and test instructions.
• Proficiency with MS Office, including Excel for basic data organization and analysis.
• Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
• Commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
• Experience in a testing lab, R&D, automation, or industrial production or maintenance role.
• Familiarity with oscilloscopes, data loggers, or basic instrumentation.
• Exposure to pneumatics, hydraulics, wiring practices, or machine assembly.
• Experience applying 5S, Lean, or Kaizen principles.
• Experience with PLCs, automation systems, or data-acquisition tools (or a desire to learn).
• Experience with ERP or PLM systems.
• Must be eligible to work in the US long-term without sponsorship
