What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bioinformatics Manager position at Basepair?
Genomics is rapidly becoming mainstream but data analysis and interpretation are the biggest bottlenecks. Basepair’s mission is for scientists, physicians, and ultimately people to extract actionable insights from genomic data to help with research, diagnostics, drug discovery, and personal health decisions.
Basepair is an enterprise B2B SaaS for analytics and visualization of genomics data. Our customers include biopharma, molecular diagnostics, services, and some of the world’s top medical hospitals, e.g., Harvard Medical School, Stanford Univ, etc. We are funded by VCs, angel investors and have a front-row seat for the latest breakthroughs in life sciences.
We are looking for a technically skilled and detail-oriented scientist to join our bioinformatics team. Your goal is to develop, validate and update best-in-class NGS pipelines. You will manage junior bioinformaticians and communicate with existing and prospective users. You will guide the strategic scientific direction and be the face of Basepair’s bioinformatics expertise, conducting webinars, publishing content, etc.
Requirements
- Develop, validate and update best-practices pipelines for variant calling, gene expression, epigenetics, single-cell RNA-Seq, etc.
- Conduct webinar, QnA, etc. to introduce NGS pipelines to bench scientists
- Mentor other bioinformaticians in the team
- Write white papers and blogs, represent Basepair at conferences and meetings
Qualifications
- Masters or PhD with 5 years of experience in bioinformatics or related field
- 3 years of experience of building NGS pipelines
- 3 years of Python programming, data visualization, ability to read and modify other people’s source code
- Proficiency in Linux, setting up servers, installing packages, bash scripting, etc.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and manage your time productively
- Excellent communication skills, including scientific writing
Additional desired qualifications
- Understanding of cloud computing (AWS), docker, etc
- Experience with WDL, Nextflow or CWL
- Familiarity with molecular biology and NGS library preparation techniques
- Previous startup and remote work experience is a plus
