Job Summary

The Part-Time Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct nursing care and clinical support to clients receiving substance use disorder treatment and behavioral health services at BRC's Franklinton and/or Whitehall locations. Working under the supervision of the Charge Nurse and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary care team, the RN performs assessments, administers medications, monitors client health status, and supports the safe, effective delivery of clinical services. The scope of duties for this part-time role is consistent with BRC's full-time RN position, adjusted for scheduled hours.

Job Duties

Clinical Assessment & Monitoring

  • Conduct nursing assessments for new and existing clients, including vital signs, health history review, and symptom screening
  • Monitor clients for signs of withdrawal, adverse medication reactions, and acute medical concerns, and escalate as appropriate
  • Collaborate with the NP/PMHNP provider team and clinical staff to coordinate care and communicate client health status changes
  • Complete and maintain accurate, timely nursing documentation in BestNotes (BRC’s EHR) in accordance with BRC policy, HIPAA, and 42 CFR Part 2

Medication Administration & MAT Support

  • Administer medications as ordered by the treating provider, including MAT medications (buprenorphine, naltrexone, Vivitrol injections)
  • Monitor clients before, during, and after medication administration and document responses accurately
  • Maintain the medication room in compliance with DEA, OhioMHAS, and BRC standards, including controlled substance logging and storage protocols
  • Conduct medication counts and reconciliations in accordance with BRC policy and applicable regulations
  • Review the Ohio Automated Rx Reporting System (OARRS) as directed and in compliance with prescribing oversight protocols

Client Care & Education

  • Provide health education to clients related to substance use, medication management, chronic disease self-management, and general wellness
  • Support clients in understanding their treatment plans and navigating health-related concerns with empathy and a trauma-informed approach
  • Assist with intake nursing screenings and pre-treatment health assessments as needed
  • Participate in care coordination meetings and communicate client health updates to the multidisciplinary team

Safety & Emergency Response

  • Respond to medical emergencies and acute situations within BRC facilities, including overdose response and administration of naloxone
  • Maintain current CPR/BLS certification and be prepared to apply emergency skills as needed
  • Follow BRC’s incident reporting protocols for any client safety events, near-misses, or adverse outcomes
  • Support a safe and therapeutic environment for clients, staff, and visitors at all times

Compliance & Quality

  • Maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, and accreditation requirements, including HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, OhioMHAS regulations, and CARF standards
  • Participate in quality improvement activities, chart audits, and clinical compliance reviews as requested
  • Complete all required organizational training, including HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, BRC-specific protocols, and annual competency requirements
  • Report compliance concerns, patient safety issues, or policy violations to clinical leadership or the Corporate Compliance Officer
Qualifications:

 

Education and Experience

Required

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Ohio
  • Current CPR/BLS certification
  • Strong clinical assessment, documentation, and communication skills
  • Commitment to trauma-informed, person-centered, recovery-oriented care
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced behavioral health environment

Preferred

  • One (1) or more years of nursing experience in behavioral health, addiction medicine, community health, or a related clinical setting
  • Experience with medication-assisted treatment (MAT), including Vivitrol injections
  • Familiarity with BestNotes or similar behavioral health EHR systems
  • Knowledge of 42 CFR Part 2, OhioMHAS regulations, and Medicaid billing requirements
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The work environment for this position is a behavioral health outpatient treatment setting. Employees may encounter clients who are experiencing emotional distress, active withdrawal symptoms, or behavioral health crises.
