We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Structural Engineer to support our work with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). Role Description
The Senior Structural Engineer will serve as a key representative within a client environment, overseeing structural reviews, managing a team of engineers, and ensuring that consultant deliverables meet FDOT standards. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders, including remote staff and external consultants.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage structural review activities for FDOT projects.
- Supervise and coordinate a team of remotely located engineers performing design reviews.
- Review and evaluate consultant designs, calculations, construction documents, 3D models, and technical reports for compliance with FDOT standards.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between FDOT, consultants, and internal review staff.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers.
- Understand, develop, and negotiate scopes of work and associated fees for structural services.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary reviews and ensure timely project delivery.
- Participate in and lead meetings with FDOT personnel and other stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (required).
- Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering or related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 15 years of structural engineering experience, with a focus on bridge and transportation structures.
- Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Structural Engineer (S.E.) license in Florida, or ability to obtain within 6 months via reciprocity.
- Demonstrated experience managing engineering staff and overseeing consultant work.
- Strong understanding of FDOT standards, procedures, and project delivery processes (preferred).
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in structural analysis and design software such as SAP2000, RAM Elements, RAM Structural System, ETABS, MIDAS, and Mathcad.
- Experience with Bentley OpenBridge Designer / Bridge Modeling.
- Ability to review complex structural systems including concrete, steel, and bridge structures.
Additional Requirements
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident eligible to work in the United States.
- Ability to pass background checks required for FDOT projects.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work effectively in both independent and team-oriented environments.
