Job Purpose
The Shop Service Technician maintains and services Bartow Paving’s fleet vehicle and equipment. The Shop Service Technician ensures Bartow fleet and equipment are in good working condition and handles all repairs within the shop.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities
1. Service and maintain Bartow Paving’s line of fleet vehicles and equipment within the shop.
- Conduct fleet maintenance: Check job schedule daily and receive service assignments from Shop Service Manager.
- Service, repair, and maintain trucks, tractors, trailers, pavers, rollers, and all other construction-related equipment as schedule notes within the shop.
- Troubleshoot, identify problem, and develop repair plan.
- Identify and record all service materials/parts used.
- Develop estimate of time and cost required to complete repair plan.
- Review quote for accuracy.
- Execute repair.
- Follow job standard checklist according to specified standards and perform all repairs according to established job standards.
- Exhibit cooperation and collaboration in working with other technicians and parts personnel as a team player.

2. Perform Quality Control on equipment to ensure equipment is in safe working order.
- Operate equipment (if possible).
- Maintain parts in returnable condition until installed.
- Clean and return all tools and equipment to proper storage area.
- Dispose of all waste products in accordance with Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and ordinances.
- Complete paperwork and administrative duties related to job as required by Service Manager.

3. Maintain all Bartow machinery, vehicle fleet, equipment, and facilities in an exceptional manner. Keep the vehicles, machinery, equipment, shop and facilities clean, striving to meet all safety standards and DOT requirements.

4. Assist Field Technician and Shop Service Manager with repair needs and any projects as needed.

Qualifications & Experience
High School Diploma or GED required plus 3-5 years’ experience in vehicle and diesel engine/systems repair. Prefer Technical School Certification as Service Technician specializing in Heavy Equipment Maintenance. Construction industry experience/background a plus. This position requires a valid Georgia driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Mechanical inclination with ability to use small hand tools and read schematic diagrams. Working knowledge of a wide variety of manufacturers’ equipment, systems, and fleet, as well as familiarity with utility and service vehicles necessary. Experience with paving equipment a plus. Knowledge of hydraulic systems, motors, rams helpful. Experience and ability to operate and maneuver/steer equipment and machinery required. Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Must have basic math skills and ability to calculate percentages and ratios. Must be able to speak, read, and write English fluently.
Working Conditions
This position works primarily in the machine shop and occasionally in the field on Bartow Paving job sites. This position will be exposed to the following:
- Paving/construction work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Work environment periodically exposes employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust typically associated with a construction site.
- Will work near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
- Will be exposed to a variety of substances commonly found on a construction site such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and asphalt.
