Summary Of Position

The Nurse Supervisor - Infusion is a "working supervisor" responsible for the daily clinical operations of the infusion suite. This role will lead a specialized team of nurses in the delivery of chemotherapy, biologics, and other IV therapies while ensuring strict adherence to safety standards and evidence-based practices. The Nurse Supervisor will work directly with the Director of Cancer Services to ensure effective administrative operations in the infusion suite.

Qualifications

Education

  • Completion of an accredited Nursing program.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Experience

  • 3–5 years of clinical nursing experience, specifically in infusion therapy or oncology preferred.
  • Oncology care/physician office experience preferred.
  • Minimum two years recent supervisory experience preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of nursing practices in designated department.
  • Highly effective written and verbal communications skills.
  • Proficient computer skills as are required to document, communicate and enter information into the electronic medical records system.
  • Strong people skills including the ability to recruit and train new employees.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Ability to collaborate with various departments in and outside of the Barton Health System in order to provide consistently exceptional patient care.
  • Attention to detail, meticulous development and maintenance of regulatory paperwork
  • Knowledge of oncology disease symptom management, care coordination, responding to patient emergencies, and process improvement.
  • In compliance with patient safety standards, must be able to effectively communicate in English; Bilingual abilities preferred.

Certifications/Licensure

  • Current California RN license or ability to obtain prior to start date.
  • Nevada RN license or ability to obtain within 6 months of start date.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification by the American Heart Association (BLS for the Healthcare Provider) or ability to obtain prior to start date.
  • ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certification preferred.

Essential Functions

  • Provides consistently exceptional care at all times.
  • Supervises the administration of high-risk medications, including chemotherapy and immunotherapy, ensuring a department process for proper dosing and monitoring of adverse reactions or anaphylaxis.
  • Manages daily staffing levels and patient flow to optimize "chair capacity" and reduce patient wait times.
  • Ensures all staff follow OSHA and The Joint Commission standards for hazardous drug handling and infection prevention.
  • Educates patients/families/caregivers in individual or groups settings.
  • Acts as the primary link between the infusion suite, the pharmacy, and oncology/specialty providers to coordinate complex care plans
  • Oversees the hiring, onboarding, and annual competency validation for infusion nurses, focusing on Oncology Nursing Society training, resources, and guidelines.
  • Meets nursing operational standards by contributing information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; identifying system improvements.
  • Meets nursing financial standards by providing annual budget information; monitoring expenditures; identifying variances; implementing corrective actions.
  • Identifies patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and their caregivers.
  • Maintains nursing guidelines by writing, reviewing, and updating relevant policies and procedures.
  • Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families.
  • Resolves patient needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by implementing procedures and following regulations.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by monitoring confidential information processing.
  • Maintains documentation of patient care services by auditing patient and department records.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Accomplishes organizational goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Assists in the planning, implementation and evaluation of in-service and continuing education programs.
  • Responds to the needs of the department by performing other duties, as necessary
