The Admissions Counselor serves as a key representative of Barton College and plays an important role in supporting the College’s enrollment goals. This position is responsible for recruiting and guiding prospective students and their families through the admissions process, from initial inquiry to enrollment.
As a member of the Enrollment Team, the Admissions Counselor communicates the mission of Barton College and the value of the Barton Experience with enthusiasm and professionalism. This role is well-suited for an energetic, goal-oriented individual who enjoys building relationships, working with students, and contributing to a collaborative team environment.
The successful candidate will demonstrate initiative, strong follow-through, and a proactive approach to meeting recruitment goals while providing exceptional service to students and families.
Job responsibilities:
Recruitment & Enrollment Support
- Recruit prospective students and guide them through the admissions process using a relationship-based approach.
- Manage assigned recruitment territory and student population, working toward clearly defined enrollment goals.
- Conduct proactive outreach through phone, email, text, virtual meetings, and in-person appointments.
- Maintain consistent follow-up to encourage application completions and enrollment decisions.
- Confidently present Barton College’s academic programs, campus life, and overall student experience.
- Work in an environment where performance expectations are established and progress toward goals is regularly reviewed.
Relationship Development
- Build and maintain positive relationships with high school counselors, community college advisors, independent consultants, and other key partners.
- Represent Barton College at high school visits, college fairs, open houses, and recruitment events.
- Travel independently, including overnight travel when necessary.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, and guardians.
Communication & Student Engagement
- Respond promptly and accurately to questions regarding admissions requirements, deadlines, and processes.
- Deliver engaging presentations to individuals and groups.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and a welcoming presence in all interactions.
- Contribute positively to the office culture and team dynamic.
Technology & Data Management
- Utilize Slate CRM and Jenzabar SIS to manage student records, track communications, and document recruitment activity.
- Maintain accurate and timely records within enrollment systems.
- Use data and territory trends to help inform outreach efforts.
- Learn and adapt to evolving enrollment technologies and communication tools.
Team Collaboration & Professional Growth
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across Admissions and Student Engagement.
- Demonstrate reliability, accountability, and professionalism.
- Be willing to work evenings and weekends to support recruitment events and institutional goals.
- Show initiative and a strong work ethic while also seeking guidance and mentorship when needed.
Desired Education, Skills, and Experience: Bachelor’s degree. Interest in recruitment, enrollment management, sales, marketing, education, or student services. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Familiarity with social media platforms and digital communication. Experience with Slate CRM and Jenzabar SIS preferred but not required. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Comfortable speaking to individuals and groups. Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work independently and with a team. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Professional discretions in handling confidential information. Demonstrated dependability, integrity, and positive attitude. Ability to build relationships, Organization and follow-through. Adaptability.
