Pay Information:
Internal Hires: Pay rate will be determined based on applicable personnel rule or union contract terms.
External Hires: Step placement and rate of pay will be determined based upon relevant experience.
- Fiscal Tech 1 starts at $20.47 per hour.
- Fiscal Tech 2 starts at $22.40 per hour.
- Fiscal Tech 3 starts at $23.52 per hour.
Job Summary:
FT 1:
Under direct supervision, this position represents the entry/trainee level and is designed to introduce Bartlett’s procedures, standards, and policies related to professional billing. The employee receives training in at least one specialty and is responsible for contacting and collecting payments directly from patients, setting up and processing payment plans, and performing a variety of patient accounting related tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures. This position is also responsible for sending out patient statements and printing bills when necessary. BRH Fiscal Technician 1 is responsible for effective communication both personally and via telephone/fax/computer with the public and other hospital departments. This is a flexibly classed series requiring incumbents to advance to the Fiscal Technician 3 level. Continued employment is conditional on the incumbent’s ability to advance to the Fiscal Tech 3 level.
FT 2:
Under direct supervision, the Fiscal Tech 2 is the billing resource for their assigned specialty. This position is responsible for developing basic understanding of billing & A/R functions for all providers in department, and being able to complete these functions under general supervision. This includes having knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, billing, modifiers and insurance specific rules for assigned insurances in related specialties. The Fiscal Tech 2 is a point of contact for patients with billing, insurance and coding questions. This position will act as a resource for other billing staff to ensure that the optimum coverage is obtained for the patients we serve.
FT 3:
Under general supervision, the Fiscal Tech 3 is the billing resource for all related providers. This position is responsible for understanding and managing the billing & A/R functions for all providers. This includes having knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, coding/billing, modifiers and insurance specific rules for all insurances in all specialties within related clinics. The Fiscal Tech 3 is the main point of contact for providers, patients & co-workers with billing, insurance and coding questions. This position will assist with the training and act as a resource for other billing staff to ensure that the optimum coverage is obtained for the patients we serve. This position will also cover for the Fiscal Supervisor (when available) in their absence. This position is expected to be a resource to other staff in more than on medical specialty.
Minimum Qualifications for the Job:
FT 1:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: One (1) year of clerical or data entry experience.
Preferred Experience: Work experience in a medical office and/or collections.
Preferred Knowledge: Working knowledge of Fair Debt Collection Acts and practices as well as Medicaid, and commercial insurance knowledge.

FT 2:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: Two (2) years of clerical experience in a medical office/clinic or a comparable setting.
Substitution: Education may substitute for the required work experience. *Education must be in Finance, Business, or a related field. OR Six (6) months of experience as a Fiscal Technician 1 may substitute for the required experience.
Preferred Experience: Billing and Collections.
Preferred Knowledge: Working knowledge of Commercial insurances including Blue Cross, Aetna, VA, and Workman’s Compensation
Certification(s): Obtains Hospital Presumptive Eligibility (HPE) Certification within the probationary period.
License(s): None
FT 3:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: Three (3) years of coding, billing, and collection experience in a medical office/clinic or comparable setting.
Substitution: Education may substitute for the required work experience. *Education must be in Finance, Business, or a related field. Applicants using this substitution must also have one (1) year of medical office/clinical experience which includes coding, billing, and collections. OR Six (6) months of experience as a Fiscal Technician 2 may substitute for the required experience.
Preferred Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of commercial insurances including Blue Cross, Aetna, VA, Workman’s Compensation, Alaska Medicaid, billing/collections policies, procedures, and the Fair Debt collection practices act.
