Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Purchasing Agent to join our family-owned manufacturing company. This position is responsible for purchasingmaterials and supplies, managing inventory, and ensuring the timely availability of components needed for production. Because we are a small business, this role requires flexibility and a willingness to assist in multiple areas of the company.
The ideal candidate is professional, organized, resourceful, and enjoys working in a collaborative environment where no two days are exactly alike. Experience purchasing electrical or industrial components is highly desirable.
Responsibilities
- Purchase production materials, components, equipment, and supplies while balancing cost, quality, and delivery.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and negotiate pricing and lead times.
- Monitor inventory levels and proactively replenish stock to support production schedules.
- Create and track purchase orders and follow up on deliveries.
- Resolve supplier issues including shortages, damaged goods, and shipping delays.
- Maintain accurate purchasing, inventory, and vendor records.
- Work closely with Engineering on new product development, research and development (R&D), prototype builds, and sourcing new or alternative components.
- Assist with inventory counts and inventory accuracy.
- Support shipping and receiving activities as needed, including preparing shipments and verifying incoming deliveries.
- Order office supplies and manage general office purchasing.
- Answer incoming phone calls and provide professional customer service.
- Assist with general office and administrative tasks as needed.
- Contribute wherever needed to support the success of a collaborative, family-owned business.
Qualifications
- Purchasing, procurement, inventory, or supply chain experience preferred.
- Experience purchasing electrical components, electronic parts, industrial products, or manufacturing materials is a strong plus.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and adapt to changing business needs.
- Comfortable working with Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Outlook).
- Experience with ERP or inventory management software is preferred.
- Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating across departments.
Preferred Experience
- Manufacturing or industrial purchasing experience.
- Knowledge of electrical components or industrial equipment.
- Experience supporting engineering teams with component sourcing and new product development.
- Shipping, receiving, or inventory management experience.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, or a related field is a plus, but equivalent experience will be considered.
