Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Surveying Technician role based in Wilson, NC. The Surveying Technician will assist with field data collection for topographic, boundary, ALTA, and construction-related surveys using surveying instruments and related technology. Responsibilities include setting up and operating survey equipment, recording accurate measurements, maintaining field notes and survey logs, and supporting the Survey Party Chief in completing daily assignments. The role also involves assisting with building and site surveys, following safety protocols in the field, and helping to ensure that survey data is organized and delivered to project managers and office staff in a timely manner. The Surveying Technician will collaborate with engineers, surveyors, and other team members to support a variety of civil engineering and land development projects.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in field work for land surveying, including setting up and operating survey instruments and collecting accurate measurements.
  • Experience with topographic surveys and land surveying practices for various project types.
  • Knowledge of ALTA surveys and building surveying principles, or willingness to learn under supervision.
  • Ability to interpret survey plans, maps, and construction documents, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Basic familiarity with survey data collection tools and software; experience with GPS, total stations, and data collectors is preferred.
  • Strong math skills and spatial awareness; ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, with a commitment to safety and professional conduct.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training in surveying, civil engineering technology, or related fields is beneficial.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites in the region as needed.
